When I just heard a woman on the bus talking about xmas presents-
She says her daughter is buying her son a £1000 laptop WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK-the lad was 9.

I bet anything that the family have no conception of what Christmas is all about. I can guess the answer from most school kids now to the question "What does Christmas mean?"

"Presents"

Disgusting I think for these people to celebrate the birth of somebody they don't believe in.

BTW I can't be bothered with Christmas - just another (boring) day.

First, speaking about money on the BUS (or in most other instances) is just bad form. Bragging of one's good fortune doesn't become anyone! Second, clearly a 9 yr. old boy doesn't NEED a laptop...Parents unfortunately use Visa instead of their parenting skills when things get difficult. If a boy gets a laptop at 9, what can he POSSIBLY look forward to receiving at 15? That will be one jaded kid. Poor little darling.
Lastly, I personally am appalled that this woman's daughter would spend that kind of money on a kid for something unnecessary when she should be figuring out a way that her poor mum wouldn't have to ride the BUS!

The poor boy will grow up without understanding the value of money if it is a "normal" amount spent on him. Now, if the laptop was for the whole Family, that would just about be excusable, but there are much cheaper ways of buying a laptop.

What's the problem? If she wants to buy her son a laptop for a thousand quid then let her, He might be using it to learn things you know? there's a lot of gross generalisations here - probably caused by the number '1000'. This may not be a significant amount of money to this woman.
Had the question been along the lines of ' she's buying him a computer because he's really interested in particle physics' then you probably wouldn't have posted the question (or maybe you would have).

I'm buying my son a laptop, however it won't be a £1000 model, more like £450. He will be 16 on 21st so it's a bit of both.
I think it's crazy the way we are all so consumer driven.

A 9 year old with a laptop?? OMG That is completely insane...! I'd like to smack that woman myself!! That is a perfect example of a blatant disregard for "childhood"...this is why kids get pregnant at 13!! Because, some parents take the childhood away from their kids!! Children should be treated like kids...not little adults!

All I can say is as my gran used to say god rest her sole;
"Rod for her own back" in other words the woman is making life very hard for herself in the future. What an earth is she going to do to top that next Christmas or birthday. God has little green apples he will want more and more stupid woman!
I would never spend that much on my children even if I had won the lottery becasue I want them to grow up and not only appreciate what they have but how it friggin got there through hard work. I am not saying this woman has not worked hard or anything but it does smack of "Gimme gimme gimme"!

Hmmm...more money than sense.

What will the kid expect for X-mas when he's 18, he'll probably get a VIP helicopter landing at his school each day...!
Some kids these days. Too bratty for their own good. If someone told him christmas was about celebrating god's birthday and about what you give, the poor brat would say "Mummy says it's about presents."

I think thats CRAZY! And I think those people have to much money and they dont know what to do with it lol. I dont know how old the daughter is, but I can tell you, in my family the big gifts came from my mom or santa. Us kids exchanged gifts, but they were small items,, items like a child would pick out for a child. Sounds like this mom has some issues and needs to quit spoiling her kids.Thats a big gift to live up to year after year.
