American Sign language development is credited to Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, (1817) but sign language was around long before that.
Abbe de l'Epee developed Old French Sign language in the early 18th century and was the founder of the first free school for the deaf.

In the early 16th century (1500s) the revolutionary concept of deaf people learning via sign language was introduced, and in 1620 the first book on the subject was written by Juan Pablo de Bonet - although deaf people had already developed a sign language instinctively .

it particularly is a trick question the belief of sign languages has been around for as long (or some linguists say longer) than spoken languages, no person guy invented it, they developed certainly the comparable as spoken languages. there have been references to sign languages getting used during background, the ottoman empire, Australian aborigines, community individuals, the classic greek philosophers reported them and marriages being preformed in sign. sign language(s) are organic languages, the comparable as spoken language, and developed certainly with out an inventor (there are built sign languages(gestuno), the comparable as there are built spoken languages (esparanto, na'vi))
