http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061108/ap_on_re_as/china_one_dog_policy as a way to 'control the spread of Rabies'! How moronic - one dog can get it as easily as 50 if not vaccinated. What do you think of this new policy?

They also are using this as an excuse to outlaw 'dangerous and large dogs' - what a load of BS! What does size have to do with Rabies? And is 'dangerous' decided by breed or deed? I feel sorry for the many people who will have their pets 'beat to death by authorities' (read article) - this is horrible.

How would you like it if the people in your country kept steaks on a leash? The dogs are their food. They're being fair, hehe;)

I think that China is a Communist country, and the government can do pretty much whatever they want without any excuse at all. But this is the law in Bejing - not the entire country.

This is not a new law, by the way. It's been the law since 2003. Any dog that stands over 14 inches cannot live in the city. It's because of rabies, yes (in 2003, 1,297 people died of rabies after being bitten by stray dogs), and because the authorities don't feel large dogs are conducive to an orderly society when they are walked on leashes in a very crowded city like Bejing.

Chinal also has a law that women are allowed to have just one child, and they can be fined or imprisoned if they have more than one. That also doesn't seem fair, but considering the incredible size of the population in China, it's a solution, even if it doesn't seem like a great one.

I was not aware of the laws in China.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's heartwrenching that the dogs are beaten to death. It's sad for the families that had to lose beloved pets. I'm curious though as to why only 3% of dogs were vaccinated. Does China have a law similar to what the US has regarding rabies vaccinations, and if so, what made it fail? As I said, I am not familiar with the laws in China.

My next question is what do they do with all the dogs? Beat them all to death? Are there shelters in China? Are there rescue organizations? Do they have laws about getting your paet spayed or neutered? This poses a lot of questions for me. I need to read up on China.

Interesting issue that you brought up.

It relies upon on each and each and every human being city. in the journey that they actually have a city ordinance concerning the variety of animal you may personal. My city you may personal as a lot as 4 canines and or cats. The neighboring city you may personal as a lot as 2 canines and 2 cats won't be able to have 3 canines and a million cat purely 2 & 2 In California you've gotten as a lot as 7 small canines or 5 tremendous canines. so it relies upon Then there are some parts that do not have an ordinance. and many times those people develop into "animal creditors" they in a good number of cases finally end up with many many animals they could't impressive take care of.

Probably it has little to do with Rabies. In Uzbekistan, it used to be that you had to license your dogs and I think the number was limited (a hefty fee), and the idea was that they were trying to restrict the number of dogs because people and dogs both consume the limited food available.

Many places here in the good old 'free' USA have limits of two or three, unbelievably stupid dangerous dog laws, not to mention things like breeding laws and forcing people to spay/neuter.

I know people here in the US that shouldn't be allowed to have any pets, yet they do.
Don't worry about China so much. They'll get along fine with or without your support of their policies.

Their country has different situations than ours, with which we cannot possibly be familiar or understand unless we live there.

I don't think we should be telling them how to manage their problems, any more than they should be telling us how to deal with OUR societal woes. How would anyone feel if foreign countries tried to impose THEIR ideas on how our country should be run on us???

they eat dogs in China

As far as LARGE breeds go, they are raising St. Bernards for food.

As a dog lover, this is disgusting and all of us should do something to STOP this atrocity.

THIS IS WHAT THE CHINESE DO TO DOGS
