It depends what age he is and how is current health is but my dad was 73 years old when diagnosed with lung cancer, he had a bad heart and was a smoker and they told him he could get chemo and live a little longer or get part of his lung removed but he had a bad heart and might not survive the operation but he went for the operation and survived, he was sitting up in bed 30 minutes after the partial lung removal and chatting up the young nurses and he was home a few days later and made a good recovery but 3 years later he got stomach/bowel cancer and died 6 weeks later, You should prepare yourself for the worst and you might be surprised, Good Luck

No one, not even the doctors can tell how long any one person has to live. It's not possible. The only thing that you will read or hear about is fuzzy statistics. And, individuals are NOT statistics. So, the first thing you must do is not pay any attention to the statistics that you read about or are told about. For every single cancer case is totally different.
The best advice is to go be with your Dad. Live each day to its fullest. See that he receives the best treatment possible. And, maintain a positive and forceful attitude no matter which way this turns out. Stay strong.

Life expectancy varies with the illness. Some lung cancer victoms survive, some die quickly. It depends on the stage of the disease when diagnosed, and reaction to therapy. Sounds like your dad is in alot of pain taking morpine 4 times per day. Chemotherapy can be brutal, be there for him. I'll pray for your family. Check out the website for the cancer society.

I think it depends on which cancer he has...how progressed it is...how aggressive it is and if it has spread...my dad had lung cancer...he found out it had already spread to his bones before he knew he had it...he was told in Dec he would have a year to live if he was lucky...he lasted 7 months....you need answers from the oncologist in charge of your dads cancer to find out about what sort of cancer he has before finding out if he can be cured, if it can be halted, slowed down etc...my thoughts are with you all and I really hope the prognosis is better than it was for us...xxx

So sorry to hear about your dad. Firstly no one can ever truly predict the life expectancy of someone who has any form of cancer they can only make an assumption as there are a number of factors which determine ie how aggressive and the stage at which it has been diagnosed. Speak to your GP and medical staff for more information. I know it's hard but try not to ponder on how long your dad has to live but embrace the time and cherish every moment of every day you have with him. God bless!

There are four types of lung cancer. Prognosis depends on staging of lung cancer.
I am sorry to hear about your dad.

Some people that get lung cancer sadly do not live, it depends on how fast the cancer has spread (grew) or how soon you have found out that you have lung cancer!

Ultimately it depends on how aggressive the cancer is and how your dad responds to treatment.. It could be a few months or several years. It could go into remission or it could grow with a vengeance. I know that's not the answer you are looking for, but nobody can really be sure of what cancer will do. If I were you, I'd pray and seek God on this one. I have heard of many illnesses being totally eradicated because of prayer.
