Hi.. Memory is not directly related to one's diet. But yes diet and exercises will keep you alert so that your concentration and grasping power increases.
As per one of the books I read, they say that each individual has unique memory pattern. Some can remember and recall things seen at first glance. Whereas others need to revise the material a few times before they remember it. Find out what is your pattern and then take steps accordingly. I follow a method where I read a material, re-read it by keeping in mind its use to me and then I recall it at intervals of a day, two days, a week and so on. This does help in improving my retention capability.

the brain is made of protein and to build or increase your memory you need to supplement it. A controlled diet, mostly containing of proteins, might help increase your memory. But you need to exercise your memorization skills by reading a lot or scanning through books or magazines just to stimulate your brain. Although the brain deteriorates when we age it is better to maintain a protein diet and at the same time exercise which might help you in the long run.

Be physically active. Research has shown improved mental health (memory inclusive) in physically active elderly people. Take plenty of the B vitamins e.g thiamine helps to prevent Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome which is associated with memory impairment. Avoid trans fatty acids from your diet.

Take lots of food high in Omega 3 such as oily fish i.e. tuna and salmon. If you don't like fish, then you can take cod liver oil or omega 3 in tablet form. Also, keep the brain active by doing lots of puzzles .. crosswords, sudoki, etc. Don't get stressed as stress can cause memory loss.
