Just leave it on...that will save you from having to tape it on again the next time you get the urge.
Youre not the only guy to do such things...I've met a few men who have told me thay have a "beast in their pants!"

Wait til the pet gets hungry, once it starts biting your crutch you'll quickly get it off .

it depends what animal it is, for a hampter, budgie, goldfish or kitten, i would say rip it of quickly, but for a rat, ferrit or gerbil i advice to use warm soapy water to loosen the tape first.
