I would say 1 year, Spanish is my first language but then I learned English in school since I was a kid. No wim trying to learn french but because I am not constantly learning it its hard to get a grip of the language if you live in the country where the language is spoken it will be easier for you to pick up the language

There is indeed a talent to learn languages.
It also depends on how you go about learning it:
- Books and tapes - forever
- Personal tutor - painful
- Live there - ideal
- Live there and have a local boy/girl friend - perfect!

it take a lot longer to learn a language if you are a adult, kids learn faster, come more natural to them, English is my second languages, I find the grammar is very hard to learn.

it depends if you have a good disposition to learn languages, the best way is to be in the country and usually it takes about a year. always depending from your disposition.
