The most powerful message I ever got from a Bible passage came from the shortest verse in the Bible... Jesus Wept.

Having grown up in a Baptist Church and having gone to plenty of services and revivals for other denominations... I heard plenty about the divinity, power and authority of Jesus... which was all well and good...

But it was seeing the human side of Jesus that touched me most. It's easy to worship God because you fear him... It's easy to worship God because he commands it... but my relationship with Christ became so much more intimate when I came to understand his humanity... since he was human... he understands how I feel... he understands the things I go through... he understands my heartaches and frustrations...

So... as easy as it is to worship God because he's God... it becomes so much easier to worship him when I recognize that he took time out to come down here to understand me.

What a hard question to answer with so many powerful verses in the Bible.

Rev 21:4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."

I think the most powerful realization I've come to is that God has emotions, particularly emotions like sorrow, jealousy and remorse. I know this may not sound very ground-shaking, but when you consider He's the awsome Creator of the universe ... well, to me, that's very powerful. I think too many Christians conceptualize God as some disembodied entity, instead of a God who possesses the very emotions we do (but ours are too often ungodly).

I think this realization first dawned on me when I read Ezekiel 16. I challenge anyone who thinks God is above emotions like sorrow and true jealousy to read Ezekiel 16 and be unchanged. Frankly, I can't read it without crying.

Peace.

The message I got was "Obey us or you will go to hell" and "Don't question us, just conform." I'm not sure what specific passages those were.

But the specific one I can think of was the one about Job and how God and the devil played him like a fool. When they were done, God gave Job new kids and a new wife for still having faith. Isn't that a nice thing to instill upon society? When you slaughter someone's entire family, you can give them a replacement family and everything will be all good again.

I didn't "decide" to be athiest.

I, like everyone else, was born agnostic.... i.e. not particularly knowing nor believing anything.... free of bias.
I just learnt to disregard a lot of nonsense as I got older..... became athiest...... disregarded even more nonsense... and became Nihilist. ^_^

You'll find that most of existence is nonsensical if you think about it rationally..... and theres no relying on nonsense to get you by....

this is the great one for me, God at the appointed time sent His only Son into the world not to condemn it but so that whomever shall believe in Him shall have eternal life.
this is the God of mercy and compassion for me.
God bless.

When I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer, I clung to the passage that says, "I will never leave you, nor forsake you."

In my darkest hour, when I truly did not want my life to continue, I cried out to God and He heard me and comforted me with those words.

Today and forever I will cling to them and Him.
