This married woman at work keeps saying how she and her husband have an "open relationship"...don't quite get it but somehow I get the feeling that they're both free to "see" other people.....
How can that work?

That means they are free to see other people. They don't want to be committed at the moment, so they see other people to see how it works out with other people, and then decide whether they should stay together or not, if one of them found someone else who's better than the spouse. Personally I don't think married couples should have an open relationship. Marriage means committment to the other person. not for both people to see other people.

You are right; an open relationship means they are together, but at the same time, they can have a lover/lovers on the side if they want one. I guess the only way this can work is by both partners being comfortable with it. I only know this because my friends have an 'open relationship' and they are completely relaxed about the whole thing. it would personally freak me out, but hey, if they can deal with it, then maybe we should too.

In a nut shell it is having your cake & eating it too. Some people are happier that way & I have a friend that tells me all the time that I'm insecure cause I don't encourage my husband to stare at women's **** & a@#. I think we all are different & what may work for some don't work for all.

Open to anyone for sex...

How does it work? It's a marriage for appearances... You're always more tempted by fruit that you think you can't have...

You know... "She's got a ring on..." The guys tried harder for girls that were in a committed relationship, just like girls do... He can't be happy with her, "I'm better looking than she is... He should be with me."

I've heard of it too, but what's the point of being married if you are going to see and sleep with other people? To me it sounds like there is no commitment, respect, or security there. I foresee a divorce in their future.

sometimes two people love eachother alot but it doesnt fulfill all their needs so they keep their relationship open to other people. some of them have limitations as to what they are aloowed to do..(.example; no kissing on the mouth cuz its too personal, where sex is just sex) some people get turned on knowing that their partner is desirable to others.

It can work as long as the two are willing to compromise!!

You've got it right - that's exactly what it is. As to how it can work, I can't answer that part.
