It is over use that would be bad.
Used correctly it does the job it is intended to do.
It is best not to use it before going straight to bed as it can damage the teeth if left on overnight.
You can gargle with a dilution for sore troats. But I would recommend salt water for general use - as it is fair cheap and it works.
Good brushing is the top priority - a clean tongue - massage the gums.
If you need to continually use listerine I would see a Doctor or Dentist to find out what the cause of the problem is.

No. It's good for your mouth. Just don't swallow it. I have known people to get drunk off Listerine by drinking it like it was whiskey. Yuck.

But, NO, listerine is not bad for you. The alcohol in it really helps heal cuts and infections that you might have in your mouth or on your tongue. The alcohol in Listerine also helps to ward off the bacteria that causes bad breath, and germs . Use it!

And now there is even a non-alcohol type of listerine that does not burn your mouth while yo use it. It's more expensive, but worth it, if you can't stand the burning sensation that Listerine causes.

I started using it today - and so i thought i would look up what is in it. Very scary stuff.

Have your read what is in it??????

alcohol

hydrogen peroxide = Hydrogen Peroxide is a strong oxidizer used for high-level disinfection and sterilization. It produces reactive hydroxyl free radicals and ions that can attack membrane lipids, DNA and other essential cell components

sodium phosphate = is a cleaning agent and degreaser, commonly used to prepare household surfaces for painting.

poloxamer 407 =found in multi-purpose contact lens cleaning solutions

sodium lauryl sulphate = Sodium Lauryl Sulphate started its career as an industrial degreasant and garage floor cleaner. When applied to human skin it has the effect of stripping off the oil layer and then irritating and eroding the skin, leaving it rough and pitted.

sodium citrate = A white crystalline or granular compound, Na3C6H5O7·2H2O, used in photography and in medicine especially as an anticoagulant of blood stored for transfusion

flavours

sodium saccharin = Concerns with regard to the safety of saccharin are of great public health significance and of great interest to the public because saccharin is consumed by tens of millions of people, including children and even fetuses. Any evidence of carcinogenesis -- and there is ample such evidence -- of such a widely used chemical should spur health officials to minimize human exposure to it

sucralose = While it is unlikely that sucralose is as toxic as the poisoning people are experiencing from Monsanto's aspartame, it is clear from the hazards seen in pre-approval research and from its chemical structure that years or decades of use may contribute to serious chronic immunological or neurological disorders

and it says that if it is swallowed to call the poisons information center

I use it to whiten my teeth, but now i am seriously thinking twice.

Don't you just love people like Shauny? Until I read his list of ingredients, I would've said 'No!', but now, I've got my binoculars out and checked for myself and he's right! Peroxide for heaven's sake. That's a Marilyn Monroe hair stuff bleach isn't it? Ye gods! And all the rest of that stuff too. No wonder they write it so tiny. No-one would ever buy the stuff if they knew what was in it!

dont try to get drunk off it if thats what youre thinking. there are difference types of alcohol and you dont really want the kind thats in listerine. it is possible that it could kill off all of your good bacteria in your digestive tract.
