because the combination of the air freshner and toilet stink is even worse than just the toilet stink. Switching on the extracter, opening the windows and door/s is a much better option.

Great question. First, I don't think it hides anything. It just alerts others to the fact you've let drive. Second, I enjoy the smell of my own feces and am not ashamed of my body or its functions. The use of air freshener stems from toilet training gone awry. You made a stinky somewhere you shouldn't have and your mom walloped you on the rear. Lessoned learned: Excretion should be followed by guilt. Out of guilt you buy air freshener. My parents cheered and clapped during my toilet training so now, as an adult, after doing nature's business I'm left with a warm fuzzy feeling. Thanks Mom and Dad.

I think people dont like touching anything in the toilet and often the air freshener looks dirty and old and people would rather make a quick escape than make the area better for the next user!

There are two accepted solutions - the first and most preferable is to use an air freshener - the second is to come out beaming and saying "I wouldn't go in there for a while if I were you!!!"

some people are allergic to aerosols - try using a candle (scented is best) as the flame clears the smell pretty quickly without all the aerosol issues

You don't use it in the toilet; you use it in the air.
