they are as has been correctly stated two totally different regiments in the same division (household) however, the coldstreamers are the more senior by their age but lost their seniority by turning against the crown and fighting alongside Cromwell during the civil war whereas the grenadiers remained loyal to the king.

There are five different Guards regiments - the Irish, Welsh and Scottish in addition to the two you mention. The Grenadiers take their name from grenades. They have an excellent museum in Wellington Barracks, if you can get to London.
