Districts for shopping: Upper East Side: from 72nd Street on Madison Ave to 60th Street on Madison (very expensive) then on Lexington from 59th Street to 57th Street (bloomingdale location).
Midtown: on Fifth Ave from 57th Street to 48th Street (moderately expensive, Saks location).
Midtown: 34th Street / Macys: on 34th Street from 5th Ave to 7th Avenue. Mainly shoe shopping and chains (express, banana repub, old navy. Manhattan mall loc 33rd / 6th Ave. (moderately priced).
Midtown south: 23rd Street shopping, big box retailers: home depot, best buy, bed bath & beyond: 23rd btwn 5th & 6th Aves, plus 6th Ave between 23rd St and 20th Sts.
Soho: Broadway between Houston & Canal St.
That covers it i think.....

you can go to Macy's, JC Penney's, H&M's, Lord and Taylor, Saks 5th Ave.
If you want to go cheap, you can go to Conway's, KMart or Target
