My partner has really red flaky skin on face. It looks like sunburn but its all year round, and worse now the central heatings on. Have tried lots of moisturisers but they just seem to make it worse.

Best bet's to get referred by your local doctor to a proper dermatologist. It might be some sort of eczema/psoriasis triggered by lifestyle (i.e diet/dust allergies). I cut out dairy, E numbers and MSG and mine went away. I would also consult a reputable homeopathic doctor. Anything to treat the cause and not just the symptoms.

See a Dr.

It could be eczema or psoriasis, or rosacea or something, or maybe an allergy.

It could also be a kidney condition, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Scleroderma, etc. Best practice is not to take chances if it could be serious.

If you feel you have time to try a few things first:

Stop ALL creams and etc. on the face, including soap. Use tepid warm water and soft cloth instead. Do not "wash" face more than twice a day. Dry skin before going in front of heater vents or wind, etc. Try humidifying the air. (Cheapest way is a tea kettle or leave the bathroom door open after a shower.)

3 spot test:

Use a pen to draw 3 small circles on the face, number each one. Try Neosporin in one circle, Monistat in another, and Cortaid in the third. Use each twice daily for 3 days. Stop any one that gets worse and don't use it again. If you find one that helps use it twice daily for 3 days and see if it clears up. Even if you find one and it works, you can build up a tolerance, and the condition may recur. If none of these helps, see a Dr. This could be a sign of a much more serious condition. Be sure and tell the Dr. everything you already tried. Good Luck! : )

sound like eczema. A home treatment.
take a table spoon full of gram flour ( you can buy this from an Indian shop insist for TRS make), add little Olive oil, one teaspoon of natural yogurt mixed it well like paste. every day use this on to the effected area also all over the face too as this very good for facial mask to get rid off any other symptoms. leave it for 15 minutes and wash with medium cold water. ladies can use this as facial mask too. do this every day or every other day. do not use soap while using this mask. After this use vitamin E cream or any other. you must do this at least for few months to get full result. ( try not to eat mushrooms, too much of tomatoes, aubergine when you suffer with eczema)

I'm no expert but it sounds a lot like a skin disease called Psoraisis. It's very common but unfortunately there is no cure for it. Psoraisis is caused by the body producing too many skin cells in different parts of the body. Hence the flaky skin. See your Doctor , even thoug it can't be cured it can be easily controled by medication.

It could be simple eczema or psoriasis. If he is really interested in keeping it at bay I suggest a change of diet and plenty of exercises in addition to maintaining a moisturised skin. That means little or no alcohol or spicy foods, fresh food and only small amounts of white flour and yeast bearing products - bread, beer.

It sounds like eczema and or a combination with allergies to the lotions you are using. Have a dermatologist check it out and he can recommend an ointment or a cream for it. You may need to use a fragrance free hypoallergenic lotion.

He might want to try olive oil. When my facial skin gets overly sensitive and very dry, I just wet it with warm water and apply a couple drops of pure olive oil.

I had read in a beauty mag that, I believe it was Sophia Loren, used pure olive oil on her face. She has gorgeous skin.

This is probably rosacea and can easily be treated by applying pure Aloe Vera gel to the areas affected.
