I'm generally a happy guy but every now and then (at least once a week) I go into a state of depression . It's an awfull feeling . I then start to get "angry" about things in my life . I survived testicular cancer 6 years ago and I'm pissed about that because that's the time when everything changed and "started" in my life . I have so much to be thankful for yet I still feel as if something is missing . The main issue is I feel very lonely at times . I mean I'm married , got 2 kids , loads of friends and family but I still feel lonely .

I get this way too. Sometimes I think people would judge me for not being able to "snap" out of it. But I really think it's a chemical imbalance. There are days when everything is fine by any objective standard, but I still feel this overwhelming sadness and emptiness. Aside from anti-depressants, I'd suggest exercising regularly, eating healthy foods, talk to your loved ones, and engage in activities that get your mind off of your low moods.

Your suffering from depression, which one is unknown, but you should go and see your doctor, be honest with him and he/she can direct you in the right place. You cannot 'snap out of it' it's real, the pain both in feelings and physical may become worse, (I hope not) so before you let it get to that point, take care of yourself, be the happy person you want to be and that your family and friends want you to be, sounds like you have a great support system, so don't 'be afraid' take that step and I think you will start to feel better within a few weeks, there are great treatments today with little or no side effects other than feeling the weight being lifted. The very best of luck to you!! You are already a survivor, and this you can beat.

It might not work all the time, but I usually just tell myself that it's not worth it to waste your time thinking that way, even though it feels like you can't help it. Depression hurts everyone, so I tend to tell myself that I must be happy, at least pretend at first, and usually I come aroud, just to make sure that I'm not affecting anyone around me poorly. There's no cure for depression, but if you just kind of make yourself try to think in a positive way... maybe make a list now of the things you love in life and anything you could think of to cheer you up and try to remember to pull it out when you feel that depression coming on.Or anything that can cheer you up! Maybe a good song or a funny movie... try anything! Something has to help.

I can assure you God isn't calling you.

Depression is primarily due to a chemical imbalance in the brain. Surprisingly, one of the best natural remedies is plenty of physical exercise. Takes longer than medication, but is more effective long term without the possible side-effects of medication.

Secondly, you can't "snap" out of depression.

Do you drink or do drugs? That can have a BIG effect. (and I include marijuana - it is not "harmless" as many seem to think, especially for mental health).
