My husband and I are both AD Army stationed in Germany. I am pregnant with a baby who will need emergency surgery upon birth. The military hospital over here cannot perform it, and I prefer not to go to the German hospital. What are the chances of our compassionate reassignment being approved, and of both of us getting approved?

the sooner you put in your paperwork, the better. have proper documentation from the doctors and chaplain and so forth. you need to look in the regulations to find out what other information you need to submit with your DA 4187. my question is why do you not want to have surgery in a german hospital? they are great doctors and surgeons in Germany. Can you have your baby in an american hospital? I gave birth to my son in Wuerzburg Army Hospital.

read ar 614-200 for guidelines to submitting your paperwork.

If you or family has major illness you shouldn't be denied. I would start acting soon or you know how the Army can be slow about some things. I had somewhat of the same thing, I researched pediatric specialists/childrens hospitals and found an amazing one in Columbia, SC and now we are stationed at Fort Jackson. Good Luck and start now.

Compassionate reassignment are given to soldiers in dire situations like pregnancies or illness. Thus, your reassignment could be considered inasmuch as you are pregnant and will not allow you to be detailed in burdensome duties.

you can go home to the states to have the baby. if any problems your husband that is overseas should put in for compassionate reassignment.

Katbeek's right - start on this now! You'll more than likely be approved; your husband may not be. Depends on his MOS and how many slots are open in CONUS for it.
