do u use mac or pc?
1st you have to remove the encription

2nd you have to compress the movie

3rd you need to burn it

all of these steps are very easy to do and there are alot of free programs out there to do this - do a search in your browser for- free decoding/decripting DVD - compression DVD - and try the free ones out - maybe read some blogs about backing up DVD's.
I can tell you step-by-step how to do it but I leave it up to you to track the info. down - I am just letting you know that there is free software on the net to do it - and if you really want it - it is out there and really easy to find.
JUST A WARNING THOUGH - If you are really just doing a backup then your intentions are justified but if you are like the millions of others (burning rented movies) then watch out - you are taking a risk that can cost you - just last week in the paper the police raided a guys house because a ex-friend gave him up that he was burning movies - so they hauled away the guys computers and disks and will probably get fined a huge sum of money.
With that in mind,
Cheers -

DVD Shrink in collaboration with Nero. Remember always use the latest versions and don't forget the Region Free or Region Killers programmes.

There are two factors to consider here. First of all you will need something to bypass the copy protection of the disc such as "DVD Region + CSS Free". To copy the discs I would recommend "Nero Recode" because it allows you to cram double-sided onto single-sided discs by degrading quality slightly, removing unnecessary audio tracks/subtitles, etc, etc.
