I know its in the constitution and all but it was made about 220 years ago. More people die in US from gun crime than the rest of the developed world. Admit at least something has to be done and stop being gun- ho.

Well, you're right about it being a sort of obsolete law. Historically they wanted to allow people to have guns in case we were attacked, as our militia was not as strong as it is today.

But now, in this "civilized" society, we have police forces in every town, the strongest military in the world, national guard, coast guard, etc. Who are we using guns to protect ourselves from? Each other? I know people like to say "people kill people," but really, the gun was designed for one function. To kill.

However, to ban it now would be almost impossible. There are so many guns out there, and a lot of the criminals would be the only ones to have them. There should absolutely be a ban on the semi-automatics, and bullets designed to go through law enforcement vests.

Steve: that's a good idea, we need some bullet control! LOL

No. There are several legitimate reasons to own guns: self-defense, target practice, hunting and collection. Guns should indeed be kept out of the hands of criminals, and so I do support background checks and other laws to keep gun sellers honest, like the fellow in Washington state who refused to illegally modify a gun and told the would-be customer that no gunsmith in the county would do the work, either. (Whom did this honest gunsmith refuse? The man who became the Beltway Sniper.)

Many tragedies would be averted if people who wanted guns were trained in gun safety. Like automobile drivers' licenses, such training should be mandatory. (It is justified by the militia provision of the Second Amendment.) The NRA has such programs; I'm sure they could be adapted for general use if necessary. Guns are plain dangerous to the user and bystanders, not to mention innocent targets. The only time I ever handled a loaded gun (for target practice), I followed all safety precautions. I also had fun. Do I want to own a gun? No. Do I want to ban guns? As stated in the beginning, no.

It's out of the question now.Th ere should be far tighter controls, but if you ban guns outright you would have the situation where only the bad guys would be armed,& that doesn't make sense.Anyway, how could such a ban be enforced?

I personally do not think so, because if you are going to be a criminal you are going to get a gun no matter what. Why would we want to ban guns to the people who use them only to protect themselves? But then again its not like its the average thing to have a maniac come running into your house, but still...

The short answer is no. I like guns, I think if every one carried a gun crime would go down, with the way things are today you need a gun for protection.

No point. The criminals will ALWAYS find a way to get them...and they won't turn theirs in. Laws only impact people that would abide by them anyway...besides...zip guns are cheap...easy to make...disposable and almost untracable...even amunition can be made if you know how...I sell instructions for both...banning ANY weapon is useless...it only means that those of us who don't have acces to them are defenseless...not to mention that ALL weapons restrictions are unconstitutional...AND remember that banning weaons is ALWAYS a governmental prelude to declaring martial law...or have we forgotten Germany in the 1930's and 40's? I haven't....after all we know what happens when a war hungry short guy becomes the leader of a country...

No, gun ownership is guaranteed by the Constitution. I would rather see laws that put people in prison for life if they use a gun in a crime. Free the people who are in prison for drug possession to make room for real criminals.

Guns should not be banned because it would only make violent crimes worse, maybe worse than Prohibition. It would take a major act of Congress and fail.
