Christians around me use 'shalom' as greetings when they meet, and say 'God bless you' when they are about to leave, in our language of course. Shalom means peace.

interior the hot testomony, Jesus regularly makes use of the greeting "Peace be unto you," a translation of shalom aleichem. In a Christian concordance, stable lists the use of as making amends, to make good to make) peace, to repair, Prosperity, good will. All those issues the Christ encompasses the Grace of God and his Righteousness. It has consistently been a time-honored observe, no longer constrained to the Jews on my own. i might ask your self why as Christians it is not used greater regularly.

I cannot see that it has any more meaning to Christians than it does to Jews. It means peace, and is the nicest way to say hello and good-bye, and in life----it is the hope for all people.

It's the Hebrew word for "peace" I believe. I don't see a specific signifigance specifically for Christians.
