i have been trying to potty train my son and he just doesnt seem intrested hes now 3 years old.

i have been trying for a year now. and he will be going to school soon.my little girl was realy easy to teach

Your son wont want to go to school in nappies so dont fret, children always make it into pants before school.... try putting the potty down in the front room and completely stop encouraging him to use it but encourage him to get his teddies or action men to use the potty and really make a deal about his toys using the potty on how clever these toys are,, but making no mention to your son not using it....... he will put two and two together and realise he wants to be a big boy too soon enough!!!

He may not be ready. My 3 and I are having the same struggle. Try rewards for staying dry, rewards for going on the potty.

I have used stickers for each time he's dry and goes on the potty. After a certain number of stickers, there is a small reward.

With my others (and with this one) I have let them pick out a bigger prize for when they are consistently dry every day.

The deal is when I no longer have to buy diapers I will take the money I would spend on one month of diapers and buy the reward.

Girls seem to be easier and earlier to train. I think the issue I have seen is that the kid doesn't want to stop playing to go potty.
All of my boys have trained at about 3 years 8-9 months.

PS Have the kid only wear elastic-waist pants, no jeans. Easier for him to pull down and up by himself. Also, less chance of an accident because he couldn't get the clothes off in time.

I think boys are a bit more difficult. I am working with my 2 years old and it’s really a challenge. So you have my sympathy. I think the older they are the more difficult it gets. Like you my daughter was really easy. In 36 months she was completely trained.

With my son, am getting somewhere. I try to encourage him to go when his sister does. I insist he sits irrespective of the end result. However I try not to push too hard so he does not resent the whole process. Sometimes he throws tantrums but He gets praised when he obeys the instruction. We even do a high 5 when some results are achieved. These days he actually gets up and checks to see what he had done and you should see him beaming with pride.

Hopefully as his speech become clearer he would have the habit and say potty when he needs to go. Hopefully before 3

Hii have a 6yr old son and a 2yr old son i thought my first son would never get the hang of potty training but its all trial an error he was 3 when all of a sudden he just did it all kids are different and its just a case of being patient boys are usually slower than girls as soon as my son did it he was brilliant and has never even wet the bed im just going through it with my 2nd son now and he has accidents most days but hes slowly getting better i think you just have to ride it out he will do it when he is ready i hope this helps.

Boys take longer than girls - they physically take longer to mature and gain the control necessary.

Don't force the issue too much as you don't want him to get any hangups.

Try the ping-pong ball thing - it can't hurt and it could well work.

Really, when kids are ready, they toilet train easily.

When people claim their kids are toilet trained really early its often the parents are trained not the kids.

You may find that he will still need a night-time nappy/diaper for a while too - that's quite normal. One of my sons had a night time nappy till the night before his 4th b'day. He just said he would be 4 tomorrow and didn't want it. I took him at his word and he was right. Easy as that.

He will start when he is ready.. However the best method i know of to get kids to potty train.. is to physically make them go sit on it every 30 minutes or every hour... but you have to be diligent about it..... it should start to work.... make them sit there for a minute even if they dont have to go.

Also make sure he isnt scared of the potty. some kids are scared of it and some are scared of the flushing noise. like omeone posted earlier there are a ton of great books out there-- go pick some up and read them.. im sure something in them will help you guys. good luck.

seems like I could have written this question... my son didnt potty train till 4years old.. I was beginning to worry that they didnt make "jumbo" diapers.. otherwise he was going to be using depends adult diapers.. haha! Finally he started watching his Dad pee and for some reason it dawned on him to copy Dad and it worked.. After 1 week of following Dad into the toilet.. My daughter who is younger.. just took her 4 days to train (whew!) at 24months, she was in her big girl panties.. such an easy task with girls... goodluck! dont fret, he will get it eventually

boys can be really laxy when it comes to potty training, but if he is 3 then you should really get him a step or trainer seat for the toilet. keep persrverin and asking him every so often if he needs the toilet. then you have the time to take him to use toilet like a big boy!

Never ever try bribin them with sweets!!! I have a friend who has to give her 5 year old 'choc choc' for a 'honky'!!!!!!! Try a star chart and make the biggest fuss you have ever seen when they do go! I know it sounds silly but they will all go to the toilet in the end so just stop fretting about it and chill out. He will go when he's ready.
