Your Joking?? Right!!!

I'm sure anything extra you can get out of the engine, the rest of the car will handle.
If your getting a much better engine you may want to look at the brakes, suspension and wheels. sod the battery!!!

get a decent induction kit and if the car has a cat get a free flowing exhaust that should give you 5-10bhp more. Give the car a good service (i.e change the plugs oil etc). If your dragging the car you could also inflate the tires to say 50 psi, less tyre in contact with the road will give you a better quarter mile time but hinder your launch so you must weigh this up, grip over terminal speed. Also strip the car of its seats (excepts yours) and the spare wheel, jack etc it all helps a bit.

On the downside your never gonna be able to make huge gains of a naturally aspirated engine but should be able to shave a few 10ths off the manufactors 0-60.

If one is available, a performance chip for the computer may up performance about 20%. Overall the cheapest upgrade I know of, and the safest for an older engine.
I often tease people who drive Fords and Nissans, but in truth, if a vehicle is comfortable for a person, and they like it, that's what matters. It would be a boring world if we all had to have the same car, homes, and clothing!
Last thought, some people swear by performance air cleaners, saying they up acceleration a tad.

service the breaks and check tyres for cracks as well as depth of tread ... why not get an mot while you are at it
better acceleration can be cheaply done with new airfilter plugs and leads, empty car of non essential weight

are you goin to modify it like example putting turbo on nos?and at what budget?a good set of tyres are going to help acceleration, change youre lower gear ratios for better acc.put a sports clutch and flywheel on.and try to keep your car as light as possible.
