Biblical stories should be understood as allegories. Since he is the personification of evil, he must be portrayed as an ugly person. To put it differently, he was the most beautiful as long as he was in heaven, and after his banishment, having been filled with conceit and pride, he had turned himself into a lackluster figure. After fall, he became ugly, having lost the glory and light of God.

Lucifer/Satan as portrayed with horns and a goat's feet comes from the Pagan horned God Pan. When the Christians were converting the Pagans in the Middle Ages, they borrowed elements that the Pagans were already familiar with and twisted them around to suit their purposes. Thus Pan became the Christian Devil, but that is a "modern" concept .

I agree though that it makes much more sense for a devil (if you even believe in the idea) to be someone irrestable rather than repulsive.

Although he was supposedly the most beautiful angel in heaven and God's most favourite angel, the battle in heaven and the fall from heaven transformed him into something horrible. Something evil. Hence the look. Or so the stories go anyway. That being said, as well, the story of Lucifer and the battles in heaven and such were created after the bible story.

He's portrayed as such now because of the sinful nature he incurred when he led the rebellion in Heaven. He WAS the most beautiful of the angelic realm, second in command to God Himself, but he got to be a bit to haughty and high-minded in his ways and God put down the rebellion along with a third of the angelic realm that chose to follow Lucifer. These angels are now known as demons. I will agree with you on one point though. He does still come disguised as an angel of light when he's out "seeking whom he may devour!"

That was how the Christians convinced you that beautiful things were evil. Like women and Nature worship, by saying that Sin is Beautiful. Then to scare you into submission and convert a "good" God into an evil one, they created the horned devil who burns sinners for all eternity.

I think the Satan/Lucifer stories come from different traditions and haven't been blended well together. Satan is rumored to be undeniably attractive and irresistible, hence people are to follow him in the end times, and be happy to follow. The scary portrait is what people wish he would be, obviously bad and easy to spot and stay away from.

This is because if one does what is unbelievable the evil covers all the good and when people hear about him they associate the person with the evil than good. So thats is natural in human being.

Being ugly does not merely come in physical form alone. Someone can be the most beautiful person in the world, but if their attitude is nasty, they can still be ugly. With that being said, there is no one any more uglier than lucifer.
