There are many ways to lay your new wooden floor on your existing concrete. you need to get the barrier coverings that comes with your new floor. there are foam to rubber padding's to resins to create a level surface. If your existing floor is really bad, you can float the floor first using concrete filler. Using levels, laser's etc. can make for a great floor but it's a pain in the a** and you really don't need to. the best advise I can give you is to talk to the floor manufacture and ask them what would be the best way for your application and existing floor. For best results, chalk out the room and find the center and work out from the center leaving your smaller and off cuts on the edges so your new molding will cover it up and look natural and like the rest of the floor. Good Luck.

Home Depot has those squares that are designed to go in basements, which are good, but you are limited to only that style of floor. Concrete has moisture in it, so you want to make sure that your sub floor is made so it will prevent air from getting trapped in with that moisture to prevent mold . To do this, you can lay strips of pressure-treated plywood down on the concrete, spaced 24" on center, and secure them with concrete nails. Over this I would lay building wrap (Typar), and then cover with plywood. This keeps your sub floor off the concrete, and keeps air from getting trapped, thus preventing a nice environment for mold. Then you can put down any kind of wood you choose for the finish floor. It takes a lot of time and effort and money to get the sub floor ready, but it is far less trouble than realizing you have to pull up your new floor because you see MOLD.

Home depot have a excellent sub floor. It is made of treated plywood and has a honey cone plastic bottom that creates a air space under the sub floor so the concrete can breath. Once this has been installed the wood floor can be installed on the sub floor.

I would suggest checking out the nearest Home Depot or Lowes store. They usually schedule classes on doing such things. Of course, their intention is to sell you their product but you don't have to buy from them and it would be very informational. The workers there are usually very helpful and know a lot about their products. You may want to go to the service desk and ask for someone knowledgeable in that field if there is no one in the flooring section.

There are so many underpayments today at Home Depot or Lowes that installing a floor is easy. Contact one of them and take one of their classes, then go for it. You might learn something and be able to pass it on. Good luck.
