I would like to hear from people who have had a long term relationship and had kids to this person who have seperated once the kids are older, why did you seperate and what made you make that choice? Was it hard and how did you get over it?

I was in a relationship with my ex for almost 12 years. I could never bring myself to marry him but we had a son together. There were many little things throughout the relationship that put up my marriage wall against him. Near the end of our relationship, he did some major no-no's and I just fell out of love with him. I stayed in the relationship because of our son for another 3 years until one day, we agreed he had to go. I think I almost hated him by the time that happened. I was relieved to see him go even though he convinced our son to come live with him by telling him a bunch of lies. I was over it as soon as he was gone but will never be able to forgive him for some of his tricks. We have been separated for over 3 years now and I am more glad than ever that I ended that relationship. I just wish I had done it earlier.
