At my wedding I wanted a very personal family thing. Cheap. Just works. I was thinking the boys can grill. Just like we have done for out reunions. I am only having 75-80 ppl more ppl show up at my reunions. So I didnt see the problem. We were to make food that we can the day before. What would you think? And I am not making is cheesy. The setting will be marvelous. I am having to get alot of grills. I just dont want ppl to be like WHAT? I am not using the cheesy styrofoam plates haha. So what are you thinking or any ideas?

Just to add...COME ON NOW FOR REDNECKS? You think anyone would have some hillbilly ho down? COME ON! I CAN MAKE SOME HAMBURGER AND BBQ IF I WAS A NORTHERNER TOO! (just to let that certain somebody know how I felt about his comment.) For everyone else thanks. I really appreciated the results I was scared at first.

Just ONE point that I would make - BBQ is not only a lovely idea and great fun at any time BUT it DOES tend to be a very messy way of eating.
You might need to make extra sure you spell out to the guests that bringing a change of top for the reception might be a good idea so they don't get their best suit/dress ruined with grease or BBQ sauce as it drips down.
So great idea but I really would try and make sure guests are given a reminder about a change of top - especially the ladies who might not be able to just "slip the jacket off and risk the shirt"
Have a fab time :)

I think that it is your reception; therefore, you can do what you want to do. I think it is a good idea. My husband and I attended a reception of a couple who did the same thing. We are Southerners and many times we have held and/or attended BBQ's. At one of these such events is where the bride and groom met. Everyone had a great time.
Instead of having to come up with many grills, check around at local businesses, some of them may have large grills that can be leased to you. Or you can call around to catering businesses to see if any have information of where you may be able to rent grills.
Congratulations to you and I hope you have a wonderful wedding and reception.

My aunt and uncle had an outdoor wedding with BBQ. My grandmother who usually did the BBQ found a local BBQ restaurant that catered the event with her recipes. Or find a favorite local BBQ restaurant that will cater. It will be much more cost effective than buying a ton of grills. And when choosing items for a BBQ think more of pulled pork sandwiches, chicken, or brisket. Those three are easier and not as messy to eat. Don't forget the potato salad, baked beans and cole slaw!!!

I think you must be from the South, like me!
It sounds great, but just ask yourself ONE question...
Are you really gonna want to eat a messy food like BBQ in nice dress, especially your WEDDING dress? I love BBQ just as much as the next person, but it can be messy! And you don't want to take the chance of ruining your wedding dress at your reception! Ketchup/mustard stains (depending on which you use for your base--red sauce or yellow sauce) are KILLER to get out of regular clothes, and they will KILL KILL KILL your wedding dress.
So I say GO FOR IT...
But change clothes between the wedding and reception. Just to be safe.

If you have that sort of friends, it's perfect. Are you having a "western theme" wedding? Or even a country or southern belle sort of wedding. Obviously, you want to do it out-of-doors.
I personally would be more inclined to come to such a wedding than to one in the usually over-sweet white frou-frou style. But then I've most enjoyed unconventional weddings all my life. One of my friends was married (hand-fasted) in renaissance costume, and another was married (hand-fasted) "sky clad" (i.e., clad in nothing but the sky). Both husband and wife wore floral crowns and nothing else.
I have never attended a western themed wedding, but love the outfits, and would love to be invited to one.

Sounds great.. I wanted the same for my wedding but the usual take overs happened and I just turned up.
Its what you want and who cares what anyone else thinks. I am marrying my husband again one day and we both said we are doing it our way this time, go ahead and you will find it will be more enjoyable

I think that that is a great idea. Receptions don't have to be really extravagant. they only need to be what the bride and groom want it to be. This is a great outdoor idea. If people complain that is their fault. This is your day make it the way you want it and don't worry what others will say or think.

Sounds great. I actually thought a barbecue would be nice for my own wedding, although we ended up doing it big and expensive. Lots of people have beach weddings - why not have a barbecue reception? Go for it!

Nothing wrong with that, people are doing different things now a days. Personally I like a more casual setting, it's more comfortable.
