I am paying for my wedding. Not much of a budget. Renting a dancefloor is too expensive (same for a tent). I am having it in my parents backyard (praying it will not rain). It will be July 2007 in NC. I was thinking can I just find a solution to make one. Any ideas?

Another answer would be to make it yourself. Go to Home Depot or Loews and buy large sheets of plywood. This could be a groom and the guys project. If you do this you can paint it yourself and add your wedding design/ name/ or logo to it too!

Just remember to sand it first.

:) Happy Wedding

Those big square "fatigue" mats that interlock together (they look like puzzle pieces) might not be a bad idea..not too squishy for heels for dancing. I cannot be sure the cost will be less, but if you are willing to have "fun" with it, get the coloured ones and then use tham as gifts for the small children thru out the family or friends as play mat areas.
OR...
I don't if you can in your state, but why not apply for a permit for a street party closure and use the section in front of your house for the dancing, on the road...you MAY have to welcome neighbors to the dancing ;) but it would prob be far less expensive and fairly easy to do! :)

I see this is a real halfassed wedding. I'll be cheaper to rent one than buy one and they set it up, make sure it's level and no one will get hurt and afterwards they take it away.

Why not wait and save some money to have a real wedding. Because praying is NOT a tent.
If prayer worked, we wouldn't need insurance.

My nephew recently had a Disney wedding in Orlando, we are talking big bucks. And there was no dancing at all. It was an elegant simple affair, with background pianist and during the cocktail hour there was a three piece ensemble. Lovely wedding. Dessert was served outside on the lagoon in Epcot with the fireworks and a lightshow.

I agree, dancefloors are expensive. You can put cement on a section of your yard. Tell your parents to help with half because it will be there after the wedding, so it can be a patio for them. You can do this yourselves during a weekend and way before your wedding for bbq's.
If they already have cement floor, you can smooth it out.
