Yes, because the cream cheese will say on the box to keep refrigerated. There is no reason why this instruction would cease to be relevant simply because the cream cheese was mixed with sugar for a frosting.
It's better to be safe than sorry so open up your fridge and find a shelf!

Dharma and I will be over in awhile, I like milk with my carrot cake, Dharma can bring the coffee, if she likes.
And yes, refrigerate the cake, and set it out before serving, so it is closer to room temp before you serve it. Cold temps keep are tongue from tasting, and you do not want to block the taste of all that Philly! And you do not want to get sick from the cake, either.
I want carrot cake! Guess I will have to go talk to Betty Crocker about it.

hi there! well i guess your cream cheese has butter mixed with it right? then its better to put it on the fridge since butter itself soften at room temperature and so is your cream cheese.... you don't want to serve you carrot cake with your icing that separates right? =). if you want to just place it on room temp. you might want to try adding some white chocolate ganache on the mixture of you cream cheese - butter icing.... =)
