well first off, I am in the USAF and i am stationed in Ramstein, Germany. We are the port between the middle east and the states. All the wounded soldiers come through our hospital before they are sent back to their home bases.
I am not into the whole Republican and Democrat stuff...i don't claim a side. I just want a president who will take care of this country like it is supposed to be and use common sense in the process. I have been in the military for two years and i have not been deployed yet. I was set to deploy next year but I am now pregnant, so that is now on hold until i leave here. There is no definitely answer to if you will deploy or not. It is one of the requirements for when you sign up. All of my coworkers came back alive and well and they were deployed to the middle east. We do our 4 months and then we come home.
Now, it also depends on what branch you go into...most likely if you join the Army or Marines, you are shippin out to the middle east and may be gone for a year or more...all branches deploy but each one has a different priority in the war and the mission is different with each one.
i joined for the benefits and in exchange they are asking for you life...it sucks but the decision is yours. i like the military and when the time comes, i will get deployed, do my job and come home.
Let me know if you need anymore help.

If you want to join the military on the condition that you won't be shipped overseas, then you don't belong in the military. The US military is pretty much "up or out", and you won't move up without an overseas deployment. That's not me telling you to "MAN UP", that's just how a military career is.
That being said, the Democrats have long criticized Bush for neglecting the war in Afghanistan so maybe they will step up to the bat now and send more troops there. Afghanistan is no picnic either, it just doesn't get the headlines.

President Bush still has the authority to send troops to deal with any "immediate threat" without Congressional approval. It would be 30 days before the President could be forced to remove the troops he just sent. Even an opposition party would be unlikely to pull the rug out from under the troops/President for fear of being seen as unpatriotic. Your odds realistically haven't changed that much since the executive branch still owns the military for all intents and purposes.
When you are in the armed forces, Congress is the "Board of Directors" while the President is your boss. Ultimately the Board determines direction, but your boss will be able to make your job hell in the time between "meetings". Wait for a better boss if this is part of how you'll decide.

Their are a lot of soldiers that do not agree with the war. As a soldier your opinion doesn't count. Joining the military doesn't mean you have to agree with with any decision, you just have to do what you told. If that is not what you want then don't join. The only way your opinion counts is with your vote. Being in the military you are not allowed to discriminate your leadership. If you are the type of person that must say what you feel and its degrading in any way to your country or president please don't join. You must be willing to give up some freedom of speech to join. I was in the military and their is a lot i didn't agree with i just kept it to myself and served my country as Active duty Army. My husband is the same as me . I served a tour in Iraq and my husband is on his Second. But you will see a lot of positive thing other don't see. It may even change you mind on some issues. Dem or Rep does not matter when it comes to overseas. I think you mean deployed to war. I live overseas in Germany. Lots of American Military live overseas ie: South Korea, Japan, England, Hawaii is considered overseas. Good luck i hope you make the right decision for yourself.

First...thanks steve, opinion well put, to the USAF and her input-you go girl! hehe...yep do your job and get home and thx for your service.
Ok..when I joined the Army, the first G.Bush was our prez. at the time, and I was more-or-less going in knowing what I was in for. It was not peacetime.
So plz don't base ANY decision for now to join by who's in power, why? you might ask...well, simple- think about you and what you plan to drive for and what branch has the best tools YOU need for your future. Dem's/GOP- man, does it really matter?
Of course you'll have the burden of the "war" to consider into your path for a career, either you like the exposure to combat, or something less dangerous- like military support/non-combat.
My opinion is to think numeral uno for now.
The military had me for 9 years, and i'd do it again,....
but the wife says ive seen enough fire and death and theres too much yard work for me. hehe...g/l my friend

to even have to ask this question as a basis for joining dude please do all of us a favor and don't join
whining idiots like yourself are exactly why some of our troops are getting hurt -- military is to be proud and brave and to go serve your country where ever duty calls regardless if we agree with it or not
i think the time to join is when you can look in the mirror and respect the uniform and what it stands for not who owns the house

"Own the House and probably the House"? Your question is confusing. I assume you are thinking that the democrats can somehow get us out of Iraq? It is going to be a long time before that happens. So no, If you are a coward, stay home and let the brave ones do it for you.

save something in suggestions; Clinton despatched the defense force on extra separate missions than Bush did. Democrats in ability has little or no to do with how lots the defense force is used. in case your nervous approximately being shipped right into a try against zone, reassess starting to be to be a member of the defense force.

As long as W is in the office, it is highly likely that people like yourself will go overseas. It is the commander in chief powers that decide what will happen to you, and not the House or the Senate.
I personally value the services of our nation's soldiers. It is an important thing to do. Whatever you decide good luck to you.

The invasion of Iran and North Korea was retracted because of the triumph of the Democrats in the recent election. You can now join the military because you will surely stay at home.
