We have a stray cat who has become very friendly. She had kittens (not her first set) about 6 weeks ago and we gave them away to good homes, but unfortunately it was rather abrupt... one day they were here, then they were all gone in an afternoon. Now she is constantly meowing and looking for them.. How do I get her to calm down and move on?

Oh and we will most definately be getting her spayed... we made that decision and then found out she was pregnant!

GET THE POOR THING SPAYED BEFORE SHE HAS ANYMORE

It is great that you found the kittens homes and are helping the Mom. I think, personally, that kittens and moms do better if they stay together until 8-10 weeks. By then the mom is pretty sick of them. They have teeth and it's uncomfortable to nurse, etc. The only thing that would probably console her is to borrow one kitten back. It will just lengthen the time until she is finished with them, though, so probably not a good idea. I think if you show her extra kindness and feed a bit of canned food to help her keep her appetite up, she'll be fine, just uncomfortable for a few days. Cats are such good moms.

Hi she will get over her kittens going without any trouble as they would if they were in the wild as kittens will leave on their own accord...Just find her things to do & treat her as you normally would as the kiitens leaving will be less of an issue to her than thy are to you...

Humans tend to think that they have the same emotions as we do but in fact they deal with things in totally different ways than we do...This is in no way implying that they do not have emotions as I know that is not true & they have plenty of emotions...they just don't handle them in the same way as we do as we as humans dwell on things were animals seem to be able to let go & move on better than we do...

However now she's had kittens maybe the next course of action you should be thinking about is getting her fixed as there are lots of unwanted cats & kittens out there that really don't need to be added to...

You can help by being a responsabe cat owner & having her spayed & that way you are helping cats in general & dong your bit to make it a better world for cats...

Where I live they have had a nearly free spaying program in place for a number of years for both cats & dogs...we have reached a time now when it is hard to find a kitten or a puppy..

This makes it harder for you to get one & the ones there are around are usually up for sale & not free anymore...
So...now we have a situation that if you want a kitten or a puppy you ave to be prepared to buy one...cutting down on the EASY COME EASY GO attitude that we have seen in the past with people...

The harder it is for people to get them the better it is for the animal in question as they are not given away willy nilly to anyone & to those that just want it because it is free...

If people are willing to look hard for a animal & pay for it aswell as,then the animal has a better chance of a better home than those given away free...

Best thing to do is locate where her babies are and request permission to have the mother visit each and everyone of them. Show her that they are in good homes and happy. She is following her insticts. Next time be sure she is aware in what is happening and meets the adopted parents and is able to say good by to her children. Cats feelings and emotions are exactly like humans.
