my aunt has several birds, every time one gets out or one dies she replaces them immediately...she says it prevents them from getting lonely or going crazy...as for you, get a new bird as soon as possible...

If they have been together all their lives then the female will resent another companion for the time being., Just keep giving her a lot of love and attention. The two males have their own lives and may attack her if put in the same cage. See how she is in a few weeks and try introducing her to a new male, not another female as they will fight. I had two male Cockatiels living together (brothers, not Gay) for 18 years. One got a chest infection and died very quickly and the other one lasted just 3 more days and died, probably from grief. They are extremely loyal and intelligent little birds and your female needs to learn to trust you again.

I personally think animals grieve by seeing the dead body of the other animal who died. They often get depressed. I may try to get another bird but she will decide whether he is mateworthy. The brothers are not worthy or else did not connect with her.
You did the right thing by taking him to the vet. I am sorry that this happened. Your bird sounds really cute.
Do you have any local breeders who you can talk to? I have a few here in my area that I talk to. Look under the Yellow Pages for Bird Rescue or else look on the Internet.

What a terrible loss. So Sorry.
Cockatiels do mate for life, so I believe she is actually looking for her mate. It may not be easy to introduce another bird. I would try buying one of those pet buddy things from somewhere like Petco until you can talk to someone who knows more. I have a breeding pair, and did a little research on them. If I remember correctly, they can become very stressed if seperated from their mate, and that can cause serious illness.

I would say yes but there are various things to consider. Animals are funny and they dont always make new friends that easily. I had this issue with one of my rabbits. If you are going to introduce a new bird do it gradually, as this experience will be daugnting for both the birds. Also be aware that your cocka might not get on with the new bird so make sure you have a cage free in the event of them having to live seperatly. Even if they do live seperatly they will still be comapny for each other. This is what my auntie did with her cocka and the two budgies. Although the cocka didnt like the budgies being in the same cage it did like them in a sperate cage near by and they kept each other company.
Good luck, i know how difficult it can be to introduce animals!

I had 3 cockatiels and took 2 away from one and one I took away was the female mate. She carried on and so did he for a few days. But the two of them are fine. The two I have here are mates and the other is at a friends and was the males' mate and she is as tame as can be now. She seemed to have tamed down alot and us taking her mate away did not harm her. Give her a few days to calm down.

I would get another, but keep them in seperate cages for a while, till she gets to know him a bit. If she is older, she may not want a young bird...just something to think about.

Poor you. I don't know what the answer is but losing a pet no mater what it's species can be really upsetting. I hope you (and the birds) get this sorted soon!

Don't they mate for life?
Try asking your vet or your local bird shop - they'll know.
Sorry about the male.

I am sorry to hear that.
I don't know much about birds, but why don't you try consulting
a vet, or maybe the rspca will be able to advise you.
