The thing with humans is that what happens for one will not necessarily happen for another.
You've probably noticed some people who can exist on truck loads of junk and no exercise and not gain a pound well the same is for weight loss different genetics, different results. Its a combination of your determination work ethic and Genetic make up that will determine how you go.
The goal you have set is quite possible "on average" as it is not too over the top in the amount you want to loose in the set time frame.
generally you shouldn't healthily loose more than around 2 pounds per week your setting yourself at around almost 3 which is attainable semi comfortably but you also need to be aware that your weight loss wont be like a staircase (a constant gradient), you will have good and bad patches, that's just the way the body is, as it adjusts to the new intake of calories and exercise your weight loss will slow (plateau) but shocking your body every now and then (with different exercise and diet strategies) will get it back on track, see a dietitian and personal trainer if you want serious results trust me these two professionals are worth every penny, The average guy on the street really has no f'n idea what they are talking about and will only send you in the wrong direction.
good luck

Jon Sevitas promises 40lbs in 10 weeks. Bernstein promises drastic weight loss as well. The thing is these are not always the safest way to go.
With hard work, as you suggested, and a strict diet, yes you can lose 50lbs in 16 weeks. The normal average is about 32lbs in 16 weeks though.
The main thing is to go by how your clothes fit more than what the scale says. Depending on what you are doing for exercise, you may be building lean muscle, and that always weighs more than fat.
I suggest you drink a glass of water before every meal, and whenever you feel hungry before you snack. Cardio is the quickest way to burn calories, swimming, walking, areobics, etc.
Good Luck!!

I once lost 45 pounds in three months. I did this by diet and a lot of exercise, naybe 2-3 hours a day.
If you are working that hard then a large weight loss is possible, depends on your metabolism.
I should point out that rapid weight loss is not a good thing. One to two pound aweek is good, steady and slow, chances of keeping it off are higher then.
if the weight is coming off with no effort please see a physician , there could be something medical going on.
Please take care

That's a whole lot, but not impossible. When I was in Overeaters Anonymous, we said a pound a week was good progress. Two pounds a week is not at all out of line. But 4 months is like 120 to 122 days, and so we are talking a pound every two to three days. That's pretty concentrated dieting, and very vigorous exercise, and probably pretty extreme.

A healthy diet and you can lose anywhere from 2-5 lbs
a week. If you exercise on top of the diet it will help also.
It will be very hard to lose 50 lbs in 4 months without help
of a dietitian and health club.

It is not always healthy to loose a rapid amount of weight in a short period of time. It is important to talk to a doctor and get a physical if needed to loose that much weight. Also, remember there are health risks along with excess skin that will be harder to get rid of when loosing weight quickly.

one to two pounds weekly is what you should aim for...especially if you want to keep it off.
with fad diets, you may lose weight fast, but you'll gain it as soon as you go back to a normal and healthy diet.
24 to 30 lbs is not an unattainable goal for 4 months...just do it right!
