Why does everybody always respond to tv problems with, "you got a bad tube" ? I have been in business 10 years and only see about 4 bad picture tubes a year. Does this make people feel smart? Do they have an electronics engineering degree? Maybe some of you REAL TV REPAIRMEN can answer this for me. If you dont mind, leave your credentials and how long youve been in the field. Thanks.

Most of the TV repairmen that i have run across don't actually know what they're talking about. Most of them are people running the business out of their home with no credentials whatsoever. Since people recognize the tube of a television as providing the picture and being expensive, they can make the real repairs and charge whatever they please.

I got a good laugh the other day. The lamp in my rear projection toshiba went out after about two months so i called toshiba and they sent out a subcontracted repairman to see what was wrong with it. He fiddled with it a bit and told me the tube was out. I asked him what tube and he explained to me how a CRT television works. When i told him there was no tube because it was REAR PROJECTION, he argued it with me and i called toshiba. they appologized and i had an actual toshiba guy come out to my house to replace the bulb. Went without a tv for about two weeks, but it was a good laugh.

*EDIT*

In all fairness to kctirv, it is a DLP set. And come on now guy, I sell TVs and things of the like for a living, I'd better at least know what components are in what i'm buying. None of the modern Rear projections are CRT. I don't mind you calling me into question, but don't be so hostile.

I guess some on here just think they know and/or want to get
points for answering -or just don't care how they answer.

If it's an important question and I have not had much personal
experience with the problem, I will recommend that they visit
or contact an experienced technician for help.

It does make people feel smart because it is the only part in a tv that people actually know of.

It must be your alternator. mechanics say this to women usually becaus mechanics think women dont know about cars. If they say something unheard of, the customer is more likely to pay big bucks to fix it.

ace, i personally think they may be doing it for the points or just do not have any other answer i do not even see 4 bad tubes a year (discounting zenith ) i feel tubes are the most reliable component in tv's today

they say that to get some stupid points and because thats the only technical part of the television they can name. and UNCLETOON rear projections sets do have crts unless they are a DLP or LCD micro display so before you bach TV techs maybe you should learn a little bit yourself.
