I am trying to concieve.I have some 800 MCG Folic Acid Tablets with me and also Multivitamin Tablets containing 200 MCG Folic Acid
Together it will add to 1000 MCG Folic Acid if I take both of them daily, that will be overdose
So if I cut the 800 MCG Folic Acid tablet to two pieces and take one portion daily , is it possible that I will get only 400 MCG?

it's pretty hard to overdose on folic acid...and 1 mg= 1000 mcg of folic acid is not an overdose. patients get them all the time for blood problems or kidney problems. i also know very few people taking 5 mg (5000 mcg) of folic acid...i don't recommend u to take that since it's just overkill at that point (no additional benefits for the cost of the medicine).

if u r pregnant...i would rather error on taking too much folic acid rather than not taking enough. just take 1 mg...it will be ok. :)

by the way...when u r pregnant, i would recommend that u take Prenatal vitamins instead...they r designed for pregnant women. this way u don't have to take extra folic acid tablets.

side note: even if u r taking prenatal vitamins, u probably still need calcium supplements. make sure u r taking 1000-1500 mg of calcium in a 24-hr period. don't take all 1000 mg at once or else u will get constipation. ...take them in 300-500 mg increments with ur meals. if u drink milk or eat milk products, u probably don't need as much calcium supplements. u can e-mail me if u want me to estimate how much calcium u r getting now.

NO. Do NOT do this. Some tablets are designed for you to cut them in half if you need to, but most are not. There is no way to guarantee that you are getting exactly half of the active ingredient. The folate may not be evenly distributed through the compounds that make up the rest of the tablet, and you may end up getting much more or much less folate.

It is also best not to take the full recommended daily dosage in a supplement, as you cannot account for the incidental intake of folate in your diet.

You can break some tablets. This have a line or cross on them to break in to two or four.

You cannot break all tablets.

You must not break some tablets, looses its potency, or may not work, or gets to be in over dose zone. This is true of the time release kind, in particular.

Discuss it with doctor or pharmacist.

Most pharmacy have gadgets to break the tablets safely.

You should ask you pharmacist or GP, because what you are saying has some sense to it but it's risky if you're trying to concieve.(i know of kids who have been given half an asprin insted of one whole one, when adults take a whole tablet meaning there is some truth in what you're saying!!!)

I don't know the mechanics of synthetic fertility, but I would think you should just take the ONE pill, whatever it is. Don't do two.
