Hi, Dexter is afraid that you have replaced him with Zach. The best thing to do, is show dexter alot more attention and love. Let him know he's the boss of his yard and house. Are you with both dogs when they try to play? If yes, don't be with them. This is
the problem,Dexter doesn't want Zach away you,and he wants all the attention. Try this and see if it works. If it doesn't you may have to put one dog here and the other over there. Wish you luck.

Simple answer: you can't !

They are both adult males - and they'll never be "friends". They WERE friends, when one of them was a puppy... not an adult!
They fight now for supremacy. Only one of them can be the leader - that's the dog world.

But they can be trained - by a professional - not to kill each other - and just ignore. But this is not a 100% rate of success... even with proper training. And it costs...

I suggest you keep them separately... until your mom-in-law comes back and life returns to normal...

I have 2 dogs - one male (German pointer), one female (English spaniel). He adores her, but she... she is really jealous. Always trying to be first - even if he doesn't compete with her. They don't fight - 'cause he gives up (very polite... :)

Your Dog figures there is another taking over his territory.. They don't remember each other.. There probably is a chance they will not get along anymore since they have not lived together in quite awhile.. Best thing I can tell you is to keep them seperated..

Try to walk them outside. Let them meet up in a place where neither of them has confirmed to be territory... youll be suprised onhow their attitude would change in a diff enviroment.

I sometimes let them fight ( I have rotts and pitbulls ) but observe them (DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE COMPLETE CONTROL OVER YOUR DOGS). One has to dominate the other or they wont get along.
In the case when you see them seriously hurting each other. youll really have to keep them apart.

Good Luck!

Unfortunately, they will never be "friends" again. They can tolerate eachother to the point that it will be liveable. You have to allow one of them to become the alpha, and one to become the omega. This way they will tolerate eachother, but they will never be equals again.
