It is because the current generation are imitaters.
All that is seen is copied and imitated, especially the movies, music, modelling, dance all the acts of least importance in life. Entertainment and hero worship of entertainers are the order of the day.
So, they think that wise people are lesser in the world.

There is a lot more information to take in these days. More and more technology and information is being presented to us everyday. So on average, people might seem like they aren't so bright, when really most people are just as bright, but still have a lot to learn.
And in regaurds to "Vas," we are all imatators, it's only human nature. It begins at birth, when we learn to talk and walk from our parents.

Because so many people are in this new world order and held in spiritual captivity. tricked and or forced to go threw a secret serimony, which includes transindentalmeditation which puts people into spiritual bondage. takeing away even constructive and wise disernment.

You could blame the school teaching system . As it just fills peoples minds with theories and so called facts . But does not teach what to do with the information.

The reverence or worship of God is the beginning of wisdom. The answer will depend on your assessment of whether there are more or less worshippers of God. The wise are those who know and worship God.
