I have experienced slight pain while taking a short trip on a small passenger aircraft. But now I'm going off for a longer flight on a longer trip. Does anyone have any solutions to help?
Thanks in advance =D

I used to chew gum as well but found a sucking action during take-off and landing worked a lot better. Try just sucking on a couple of barley sugar lollies. I'd worry with the earplugs that the pain would intensify.

Regular earplugs won't do anything. You can actually buy "travel" earplugs that have a mechanism of equalizing the air pressure in your ear canal, making the pain go away.

Aside from those, there are things you can do to help with the pain. First, chew gum and take small sips of water or juice. Pain is most uncomfortable during descent, and one way to equalize the pressure in your ears is to do the following:
Take in a deep breath, and hold it in. Pinch your nose, and keep your mouth closed to avoid the air escaping through those two ways. Then, try to blow the air out. Since your nose and mouth are closed, the only way for the air to escape is through your ears. You will feel a "pop" as the air pressure equalizes in your ear. It might hurt for a moment- but just a little bit. You'll then feel better, since your ears are equalized again.

Have a safe flight!

I have used earplugs when riding on an airplane. I feel that it helps. I think what the earplugs do is help takes the pressure off your ears as the try to adjust to the different air pressure levels. I always put them on before taking off and landing I also chew gum during those times.

Yes, especially if you're seated near a screaming brat or some cackling old battleaxe taking her first flight with her Lhasa Apso on the seat next to her...

Try "Earplanes", they really work. I used to have excruciating pain in my ears during flights, so much so that I was afraid to fly. Now I take Sudafed and use Earplanes and I am just fine. You can get them at drugstores.
