We are planning to relocate to CT from California and would like some help as far as nice, family friendly towns that have nice restaurants and entertainment. We work from home so it doesn't matter which town, however one family member is moving to West Hartford so any info on that town would also be helpful?

West Hartford is considered to be at little more on the wealthy side but not quite like what you'd find in some towns in Fairfield County. I think it's absolutely family friendly, large homes, very suburban and a good choice. You wouldn't have any problem finding nice restaurants or places to shop. West Hartford has it's own downtown area and the West Farms Mall is in the next town over (Farmington). Entertainment shouldn't be a problem either since that's one of the more highly populated areas of the state. There are also a number of private schools/colleges in the town/area. West Hartford is well known for it's Jewish community and has the highest Jewish population in the state. I'd recommend almost any town in that area. Avon, Simsbury, Canton, and parts of Farmington can be a little more affluent and are much less populated than West Hartford.

As for the city of Hartford itself, you probably don't want to live there. It has ended up on a few lists of 'most dangerous cities' in the US. The North End is largely impoverished, crime-ridden and can be extremely dangerous. It has been compared to the South Bronx in NYC. The south side is somewhat better but still isn't thought of as a safe place to live. Between the two is the downtown area which is safe during the day but pretty dead at night. West and East Hartford are completely independant towns and are not just 'areas' of the city of Hartford.

Across the Connecticut River, the eastern side of the state is generally considered to be less expensive and is less populated. East Hartford has portions which are heavily working class and may seem a little run down in parts. Manchester is similar to West Hartford but very middle class with smaller homes (more capes, condos) and a massive shopping district (Buckland Hills Mall area). The father out you go, the more semi-rural/rural it gets. Tolland is a great semi-rural, middle/upper middle class town that was voted the 29th best place to live in America by CNN/Money magazine in 2005.

In the Hartford area...look for Southington or Farmington. They seem like nice areas to me. Maybe expensive, but coming from California you're probably used to that.

that is totally the incorrect deal for you if you're on the low priced. purely a builder is going to make income this one and easily a specialist residing house remodeler can purchase it. there may nicely be mould complications that are very severe priced to fix. in view that there replaced right into a hearth, the numerous damage is not purely from the fireplace yet from the water which placed it out. As a landlady I rented two times to those who had residing house fires. the time-honored era of time they spent rebuilding replaced into 2 years. they had to stay someplace else even as issues were done. it isn't a very good probability! bear in mind the former adage: a honest deal on a tremendous residing house is larger than very much on a honest residing house. there are such a good number of respectable foreclosure accessible on the marketplace now. seek for one without fireplace, mould, plumbing, or electric powered complications.
