Belief transforms the possible, into the actual.

Just so we get this point clear...a doctor would never convince any patient that a sugarpill is a miracle drug..(for them to need a miracle drug they would have to be in dire straits)..and to do so would be completely unethical. Placebo is only used in studies that people make a choice to be a part of. Doctors are not allowed to give people sugarpills in lieu of actual medication..not only would they face legal action if that patient was to die, or become sicker from a condition that they did not receive their medication for, but it would be fraud, for they would have to charge the patient the price of the medication that they think they are getting rather than the considerably lower price of a vial of sugar pills.

People that participate in a study that involves Placebo know what they are doing...and they know that there is a chance that they may well be given a sugarpill. The other option is that they will be given actual medication. The healing power of medication, in general, has already been proven, the psychological effect that the sugarpill can have on a person and whether it can indeed help them is merely a consequence of the initial study which is generally done to see if a particular medication has a profound enough effect on patients to be realistically used in the real world. So Placebo studies are not done in order to find out whether faith is a factor in healing..they are done with the intention of furthering our knowledge of certain medications.

If you are a person that believes in the power of faith..how can you lose out in a Placebo study if you say that your condition has improved? You can always attribute it to your faith..but what you forget is that most diseases naturally have a substantial clear-up rate so seeing an improvement could just as easily be attributed to that as it could to faith..

One more point...why would you have to take a sugar pill for you to invoke your faith..wasn't, or shouldn't ,it have been there anyway? If you believe that faith will cure you of a disease or a sickness should you have to take a sugarpill in order to believe it, don't you already KNOW that God and it will?

1. We use only about 10% of the minds potential in a conscious way. If you believe in the doctors claims some more of the minds potential will be used to cure the body.
2. A conscious solid belief in something will help work wonders in much the same way.
3. It is a reality to the person with a dis-ease that they want to get rid of.

I wanted to have a baby so bad, even though tests say negative, I get nauseous, gain weight, lost my period for 4 months, get all the symptoms of being pregnant. I am coming to terms that I will not have anymore baby's. Faith is a powerful powerful thing.
I can easily manipulate my mind, if need be. Go into survival mode, The mind is amazing.
Sometimes, though things are not always in your head.

I will through my two cents in…

How was the patient convinced... did they only believe or did they know the fake pill would work? :-) Success is largely dependant on the person’s capacity to visualise the repairs needed (mind creating instruction for the body to follow) so that is largely dependant on the doctor's ability to visually describe the healing process.

Good question…

What is real is God's faithfulness. A person who is born again through Jesus Christ has the promises of God to rely on. God is not man that He should lie. If God says that He is not an idol with eyes that do not hear.....or eyes that do not see, we can have faith that is true.

It shows our human brain is capable for far greater and unthinkable things.

Like walking on fire and not getting injured, killing numerous innocent people for the sake of your leader, or meditating and going without food for days, surviving in the middle of the desert/ocean without food, and eating McChicken everyday for lunch without fail.
