My doctor prescribes me Ritalin for my ADHD. I must have this! Not only do I need Ritalin for my ADHD, but I also use this as an appetite suppresant to make me lose weight (which is actually the most important reason I take it) (I'm 5'8 and want to weigh 110 pounds.) It's working like a charm for my hyperactivity and for killing my appetite! The only problem is that when I'm on ritalin, my heart beats so fast that I can't even feel my heart beating when I feel my chest. I have a special pulse measuring device that says I'm going over 130 beats per minute (which I know is extremely dangerous) All this, even with such a low dosage. What I need to know is: what medicine I can take to slow down my heart that counteracts this dangerous side effect and safely mixes with ritalin? PS. I'm afraid to tell my doctor about this because I fear he'll take the ritalin prescription away and I won't lose weight and I won't be able to concentrate in my music lessons. What else should I take?

Sweetie, please, Please, PLEASE talk to your doctor ASAP!

Nobody can prescribe medication other than a doctor and only your own doctor will know your unique medical history.

This is of utmost importance. If you do need to loose weight, there are other, more effective, SAFER and healthier methods.

I can tell you that if you are 5'8" - there is no reason for you to weight only 110 lbs, and that it may even be UNHEALTHY to get down that low.

Ask your doctor about what he/she thinks you should weight. Do NOT listen to your friends, or read the magazine articles for this.....

My dd is 5'9" and weights 145-165: her doctor suggested a range of 145-165 for her at 5' 9"

Other dd is 5' 6" and doctor recommended 135-150 for her

Please get your advice directly from a real doctor.

I can understand you being afraid to tell your doctor, but this is what you must do. It is unhealthy to keep your pulse that high. Any medication that would be strong enough to slow your heart down would have to be prescribed by your doctor, anyway.

There is at least 1 new medication that is helpful for ADHD.Only your doctor can say what is best for you. He has the knowledge, training, and can physically examine you. Your health is too important to hide things from your doctor.

I'll bet that you can still lose weight if off of the Ritalin, and who knows, maybe you won't have to get off of it.

Personally, I avoid the health care professional and I avoid medication. With that stated, what I might do if I have been you is get lots of relaxation, pastime extra to enhance your middle (aerobic is excellent, mild in the beginning then regularly develop workload). Avoid caffeine. Learn yoga. Do a few meditating. Visit the puppy retailer and revel in your favourite animal. Such pastime will enable you to calm down. Lastly, my recommendation is to are living a realistic existence. Avoid pointless pressure, and revel in the entire little matters.
