You don't have to but if you can spare a few $$ than do so...Believe me those that you tip do know.Next time when you order take out they will take great care of you. I am hostess which help take order over the phone I got about $20-25 per nights. I used those $$ to buy food or coffee and shared them with my co-worker.

I tend to order out at restaurants w/ a bar and will place my order there and have a drink while I'm waiting. When that's the case I'll leave about a 15% tip because I'm also tipping for the service of getting my drink.
If it's a casual pizza place w/ sit down I'll leave a couple of dollars which usually comes to about 10%.
Even if's it's a place where I've phoned ahead and am just walking in the door and picking it up I'll leave a buck.
I guess it depends on the situation but in all of them I'd leave a least a small tip.

15-20% of the bill, but I always tip more if the service is good, because servers work for their tips (can you live off 2.13 an hour?)
I know you didn't ask, but when it comes to pizza delivery, also tip at least 20%, but never less than $3.00, and preferably at least $5. If you can afford to order a pizza, you can afford to tip, or else don't order. I've delivered in the past, and have received some crummy tips, and now the gas prices are outrageous. Drivers don't make that much per hour, either.
Okay, I'm climbing off my soapbox now!
Sorry...I just realized I didn't read the question all the way. I guess a take-out tip would depend on the quality of service and how much effort needed to prepare your order.

I work at a sit down restaurant that has a take away... sometimes the girls get tips but they also split 1% of the night's sales from the servers' tips... so they end up making a lot without tips from their orders.

Do you leave a tip at Jack in a Crack, Burger King, or Mac Donald’s??? If not, then why would you leave a tip for the cashier at a sit down restaurant who just rung up your order and gave you your change? They basically gave you the exact same service as a fast food joint, but yet you don't tip them.......Also I've noticed that if you order in at some Carl’s Jrs. they actually bring you food to you, but yet they don't get tipped....hmmmmmm.

yes because the waiter still has to take the order and bag it for you, i usually tip 20% when sitting and dining in, and 15% on take out, of course if you are sitting around and waiting or the orders wrong or they are rude whatever, no
BUT
some restaurants like one i worked in , that wa a very nice sit down restaurant would add a "packaging charge" THAT is the tip, so if you tip on top of that your double tipping them

Yes! Please do!
Most servers are taxed based on their sales - for example, if I sell $100 worth of food, it is assumed that I made a 10% tip = $10. And I am taxed on that assumed $10.
If I sell take out order to someone who doesn't tip, I actually lose money on it, because I have to pay taxes on something I never earned.
Usually it works out by the end of the night (someone tips more than 10% and makes up the difference) but there have been times when I came out behind. Sounds unfair, but that's how it is for lots of us.

the answer is bound. Irregardless to no matter if or not they could grant you with an similar service as a server. they're a million-greeting you on the phone. 2-taking your order. 3-packaging your order. 4-supplying you with a 'to-flow' menu with the shops telephone decision and their call, in the journey that they take position to make a screw up. and please, be nicer for your servers once you *****, 9 cases out of 10, it isnt their fault, yet they ought to settle for the blame. 20 p.c. is the right tipping technique...they purely make $2-$3 an hour.

I used to work in a restaurant, and no one ever gave a tip for a to-go order. I suppose you could if you really wanted to though.

I'm with the no tippers. I'll tip for a sit down meal but I'm not tipping someone who just brings me my food, it's like tipping a fast food worker! (and I've been a waiter and a ff worker so I know both situations). I mean it's nice to tip but you don't have to and it's not expected.
