Oh, chick!!!! I feel for you. I was raised pentecostal. I have seen people jump pews, I have seen them fall out on the floor, I have seen it all and then some. People worship God in different ways, either out loud, dancing, singing, praying, quiet.....I don't agree with their speaking in tongues, because UPC (united pentecostal church) are more concerned with speaking in tongues than accepting Jesus into one's heart.

Did you also know a branch of this denomonation is known for "snake handeling" also, the "Faith healers" (those televeangelists who "heal" people, by well, pushing them down.)

ROFL!!!!!!!!
Believe it or not Pentecostals are 100% Born Again Christians. Weird as they are.
The best way to explain them is to picture Christianity as a football game (forgive me Lord) The Catholics are the old faithful fans that go through the motions and know most of the former players and refer to the "good ole days" The Pentecostals are the fans that paint themselves red, white, and blue and wear cheese on their head. Same game, different fans. The speaking in tongues is a cool spiritual gift but it has it's place. If you never speak in tongues it would not matter but if you get that gift then awesome!
May GOD richly bless you.

People who speak in tongues today are not under the influence of God as they may claim. Speaking in tongues was a gift of holy spirit in the 1st century. The apostles of Jesus and those who they passed the gift of tongues on to used this ability to preach to people in a lanugage they had not learned, but speak the language of whoever they were talking to. This was not an ecstatic outburst of uninteligible gibberish, as you saw. Furthermore the bible clearly shows that the gift of tongues would stop in 1 Corinthians 13:8 True christians would not practice this kind of speaking in tongues today because it is clear that it is no longer available from a divine source. Some may be faking it, but others are under influence from wicked spirit creatures. I would suggest avoiding this altoghether.

Holy Spirit is something which brings order. It never results in confusion or disturbance. If you what you saw was total confusion its not from the holy spirit.

1Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

Speaking together in tongues, prohesying together, or even speaking in tongues singularly without an interpreter was not right as Paul says in 1 corinthians.

1Co 14:27 - 31 If one speaks in a language, let it be by two, or at the most three, and in succession. And let one interpret. But if there is no interpreter, let him be silent in a church; and let him speak to himself and to God. And if there are two or three prophets, let them speak, and let the others judge. If a revelation is revealed to another sitting by, let the first be silent. For you may all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be comforted.

CALLED SLAIN IN THE SPIRIT, WHEN THE HOLY GHOST COMES DOWN ON THEM. EVER BEEN THERE? SEE JOHN 3:6-10, JESUS SAID UNLESS YOUR BAPTIZED IN FIRE, THE HOLY SPIRIT, YOU WON'T SEE HEAVEN. AS TO THERE BEING HURT? NOT LIKELY UNDER SUVH CIRCUMSTANCES. ALTHOUGH IM AN ORDAINED BAPTIST, I FULLY AGREE AND HAVE COME TO TERMS WITH THE PENTECOSTAL CONDITION. TONGUES ARE ANOTHER ISSUE, I PERSINALLY HAVE NOT SEEN WHERE WE ALL HAVE TO SPEAK IN THEM TO SEE HEAVEN. BUT PAUL TEACHES US , 1ST COR, THAT SOME WILL PREACH, SOME WILL TEACH, SOME WILL SPEAK IN TONGUES AND SOME WILL INTERPRET.
GOD BLESS

I try to always keep in mind that God is not a God of confusion. Especially when some one says that they are "in the spirit". God does give us gifts, there are many, however he does not give us confusion, He tells us to follow the chain of command. i.e. 1) pray about what you have been given 2) take it to your pastor 3) pray Gods will be done

Try going to the ones that handle snakes and drink poison. It's the greatest show on Earth. I'm Agnostic, but I admit those people have faith.

pentecostal people believe that the only people who will be saved are the people who speak in tongues - it's just like a garbled language that only god and them know. it's like speaking god the true desires of your heart, and these desires aren't of any language (like english, german, etc). i asked this same question a while ago, so you can look in my questions history if you want more info.
