If you are open to purchasing guns off the internet, I would check out http://www.gunsamerica.com or http://www.gunbroker.com

GunsAmerica has a section dedicated to 50 caliber (Big 50's I think they call it)

The transfer still needs to take place via two FFL holders. Being that most 50's are thousands of dollars, I'd also recommend the use of an escrow service (gunbroker.com lists one or two in their FAQ that handles firearm transactions).

Most people on these sites will allow you an inspection period to handle the weapon (3 days is usually the standard).

If nothing else, you can use the websites to get an approximate price and use it to bargin with the local gun store owner.

Just like with Ebay or anything else, if the deal looks too good to be true, it probably is.
