The concept is viable and does work.
However, if the car had a power failure it would drop like a rock since it cannot glide. So far as I have seen.
There was some talk as to a ballistic parachute, but that is not going to help at 100 above the ground.
I believe they have addressed a lot of critical issues and they have a prototype but I think there are many safety issues that have to pass the FAA before we see these flying commercially.

It's a joke. If you look through old issues of Popular Science or Popular Mechanics, you'll see the same old red Moller Sky Car on the covers every couple of years since the 80's. It looks pretty, sounds like a good idea, but it doesn't work. It simply cannot generate enough lift and thrust to be practical. Barring some sort of breakthrough in engine technology, the Moller Sky Car concept is not going to work.
Search the internet. You'll find a lot of columnists have been taken in by the hype. If it was going to work, Moller would have been able to work the bugs out years ago.
If you want a real car that could fly, it's been done. The Taylor Aircar was probably the first, back in the '50s.
Besides, the practical side of hundreds of thousands or millions of them flying around cities is insurmountable. Imagine all those idiots out on the roads today, but instead they're flying around at 350mph, talking on cell phones, smacking on a cheeseburger, putting on makeup, or searching in their armrest for a CD. Think air traffic control could handle all those yahoos wandering around above major metropolitan areas? They have a hard enough time as it is, and that's with pilots that (almost always) do what they're told.

I'll believe it when I see it. My understanding is that a ton of time and money has gone into it, without much to show at the end of the day.
