The doctor told us that red blood is usually an indication of a 'fresh' wound and so originates in the lower colon. If the blood is black or tarry than it has digested and comes from the stomach.
Possible causes for red blood are hemorrhoids, Crohns Disease, IBS, and Ulcerative Colitis/Proctitis.
Colo-rectal cancer is possible in your age group, although very rare. Mostly older people in their fifties get colon cancer. But younger people, teens, and children can have colo-rectal cancer especially if they develop multiple polyps. If there is a history of colorectal cancer in the family there is an additional risk.

You should have a colon cancer screening and a complete physical to rule out cancer and narrow down what is causing the bleeding.

Did you eat beets of anything red? The blood in cancer can be black or small amounts of red throughout the stool, to the toilet being bloody in the water. Of course, hemorrhoids and diverticuli can do this as well.

Highly, highly improbable that you have cancer. Most likely a hemorroid (strangulated blood vessel) or a small fissure(a little tear in the skin). Cancer usually displays a much greater streaking and can be anything from bright red to dark, tarry black depending on how high in the intestinal tract. Don't worry.

Go to your Dr., he will want a stool sample which they can test very easily if it is really blood. If it is and it is not from a hemorrhoid then he will suggest a colonoscopy which will confirm the condition of the bowel. It is not a difficult procedure but one we tend to shy away from. Act right away, time is so important when dealing with such things. Your age is in your favour but don't hesitate to get it checked out. Blessings.

any amount of blood in your stool is abnormal. At your age I wouldn't worry.
The problem is that a lot of things can cause a little blood in the stools- gastroenteritis, hemorrhoids, wiping to forcefully and repeatedly, constipation. I would worry if the blood is persistent over time and is more than just a speck.

It sounds more like you have a hemorrhoid...a small tear near your anus. These can be treated by Prep. H etc. The blood for colon cancer is usually quite a lot but if you are concerned never feel ashamed to ask your doctor.

Bright red means straining or hemrroids-dark black stool means bleeding higher up internally ---hence, usually cancer.
