Ok first, Jesus resurrected Lazarus probably to show God's power and because everyone was upset that day (including Jesus).
Second, interesting question - do people go to heaven right when they die? Or do they "sleep" for all those years until the last judgement.
and the 144,000, that's either literal Revelation belief, or literal Jehovah's witness. Not every Christian believes that only 144,000 people are going to heaven.

The bible doesn't tell us why Jesus chose to raise Lazarus from the dead. Since Jesus did a few things to show others that He was indeed God on earth....that may have been one of the reasons, so that people would know who He was. In another situation, He asked the religious leaders which was easier, to say to someone their sins were forgiven, or to take up their bed and walk. To show that He was the son of God, He healed that person in view of everyone.
Don't be confused over the 144,000. You're listening to Jehovah's Witnesses, who are more confused than you'll ever be. They are terrible bible teachers. The 144,000 are Jewish men who, during the tribulation period, will be evangelists for Christ on earth. It has nothing to do with a "limited" number of people in heaven. Anyone who confesses Christ as Lord will be saved...there is room for all.

The resurrection of Lazarus was deliberate and two fold one he waited until the body was almost decomposed for surely he who believes in Jesus shall never die. Second this lead directly to the decision of the Sanhedrin to kill Jesus.
The 144,000 are the 12 tribes of Israel squared x 1000 . Symbolic of the new Israel(church) from every nation, race, people, and tongue.

These 2 scriptures may help u
Acts 2: 34For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,
" 'The Lord said to my Lord:
"Sit at my right hand
35until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet." '[g]
And this one helps explain that Jesus and God are 2 separate persons at John 3 . 12I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.[d] 14Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.[e]
Jesus explained that Lazarus was asleep and the Bible describes this condition more at Ecclesiates 9; 5 and 10.
As for the 144, 000, these are special and separated from the great crowd of worshippers who survive the tribulation. Paul said at Romans 2; 28A man is not a Jew if he is only one outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. 29No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man's praise is not from men, but from God.

Lazarus was dead, his soul had not gone to heaven, he was only sleeping. Jesus had not yet ascended into the lower parts of the earth
and conquered Satan, and took the keys of death, hell and the grave out of his hands. And gave gift's unto man.
That was after his death on the cross.
Souls were held captive by Satan in Paradise
Now they are set free by Jesus to go back to God.
Jesus resurrected him for the power of God to be seen by
mankind.
The 144,000 Jews are to be saved during the tribulation
They are virgins, who have kept their faith
This can be found in the book of Revelation

In John chapter 11&12 it explained. As for where Lazarus was, he was in paradise, abrahams paradise. Read also the parable of the beggar at the rich mans gate who died and went to abrahams bosum. Do not assume that Jesus used parables just like fairy tales. He never used dancing teddybears so the people in His stories were just as real as those hearing them. And as for the 144,000, I think you will find that even they have revised their teaching since their membership has exceeded that number.

Jesus resurrected Lazarus as a favor to Mary Magdelene, and to show that He COULD.
The 144 000 are a different story entirely. They will become convinced of who Jesus is only after the 'rapture', and will spend 7 years preaching the Gospel to a lost world. Since they are 'sealed', they will be unkillable during that time, which will be very frustrating for the Antichrist. But eventually, he'll succeed in killing them off--Just in time for his final defeat.

Don't be confused. Jesus hadn't gone to the cross and arose from the grave yet prior to raising Lazarus. That is His redemptive work wasn't complete.
We may be living in the last days but haven't gotten to the 144,000 witnesses yet. I love your questions, keep asking.

Jesus did that because he could. The number 144,000 is just a figure to mean allot of people. In that day no one could imagine that many people in one place
