This is when people "claim" to be speaking in tongues! This is one of the most widely abused gift of the spirit as the gift of tongues was given for the express purpose of preaching the Gospel to unbelieving Jews in their own language without the speaker ever having learning the language but note here that it was always "as the Spirit gave utterance" The tongues speakers of their day couldn't just turn it on when they wanted to as it was always controlled. At any one church meeting there were to be no more than 3 people speake in tongues and then it was to be one at a time and only if there was an interpreter present. This was only to happen when there was an unbelieving Jew present and there was no record any where that a woman ever received this gift which was in keeping with the Lords' directive that the women were to keep silence in the church as he would not allow a woman to preach when there were men present. The reason for the interpreter was to tell the Church what was being said and also the speaker. The modern "so called" tongues speakers of today simply don't have the actual gift as they claim that it is evidence that they are spirit filled. Not so as the Bible states that tongues are a sign not to them that believe but to them that believe not (The them are unbelieving Jews) It is to be remembered that tongues were a known language and not some ecstatic jiggerish unknown to be any language on earth and we are warned in the Bible not to believe everything which appears to be a miracle as Satan can also perform them too. The real tragedy is that he has people believing that they are saved simply because they can utter some babble which is meaningless and tongues were considered to be the least of all the gifts as well yet the modern tongues speakers will tell you that you must speak in tongues in order to know you are saved which is utter rubbish. I have been born again for many years and have never spoken in tongues as the Holy Spirit determines who receives which spiritual gift. Take biblical advice and steer clear of people who indulge in this practice as remember that during the tribulation Satan will give power to a statue causing it to speak and the people will hail him as God

Others are supposed to believe that they are speaking in tongues... but unless someone is able to interpret it only God truly knows whether they are truly speaking in tongues.. I say this because I believe that this is faked a lot today. and besides it does not make any sense when people speak in tongues in a church because if an outsider passes by they will think the people have gone mad. so such things should be restricted to private prayer (if its true tongues) and not done in churches... I believe people also try to speak in tongues just to show that they are also filled with the spirit or just to make themselves believe that!

It's called having the holy ghost/speaking in tounges. It is when the spirit of the lord has came into the church and it usual happens to somebody who has been going through tough times and feel as if nobody was there but god was. Then the spirit takes control of their body and they begin to rejoice and praise him. I always see it at my church.

It's called 'Glossalalia', or Speaking in Tongues, and it is supposed to be the Holy Spirit speaking through the believer. I'm sure that's true some of the time. BUT it can also be faked by people who even fool themselves into thinking it's God. This is one gift that calls for discernment. And unless someone is able to translate it, it should be confined to private prayer 'in the closet'.

They are pretending to be speaking in tongues.

1 Corinthians 13:8
Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease: whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

Verse 10
But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

( The perfect is the New Testament which Christ died for on the cross. The Old Testament was done away because it was in part.)

1 Corinthians 12

1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

2Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.

3Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

4Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

5And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

6And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

11But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

12For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

13For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

14For the body is not one member, but many.

15If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

16And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

17If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?

18But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

19And if they were all one member, where were the body?

20But now are they many members, yet but one body.

21And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.

22Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:

23And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.

24For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked.

25That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.

26And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

27Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

28And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

29Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?

30Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

31But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
