The vet just squeezes that area but I was told to learn how to do it my self

No advice on how to squeeze them out, but I do know that both my mom and my aunt have poodles who used to have to have their glands emptied by the groomer or the vet.

Then, one fine day, they were told to give the dogs a tablespoon of bran every day and this would help to clean the glands naturally. Both women started feeding their dogs one tablespoon of Kellog's All Bran cereal daily.

It has been 5 years...neither dog has had to have their glands cleaned in this time! Not once, and before, they had to be emptied about every 5 or 6 weeks.

I am a groomer and do this all the time for my clients. Just put the dog in the bathtub, point its butt toward the drain, lift the dogs tail up with one hand and take the other hand and put your index finger and thumb around the base of the tail in an upside down U. You kind of press in toward the body to get around the back of the anal glands, then squeeze, and pull gently toward the outside of the body. I don't know how to illustrate without having a picture. I will try to find a link...

Another suggestion, have your vet show you the first time.

the glands are located about 7 an 5 o'clock. When you squeeze them they will feel like a pea or a bit bigger.
This is common in many dogs.

You need to get an old rag or old washcloth and hold it over the anus. Squeeze the sides of the anus(east and west). Push in and slightly to the center.
