The latter.
Any 'god' is a figment of the imagination. Any 'god' is man-made.

God created the brain. It's kind of like did the chicken or the egg come first?? Chicken because it had to lay the egg and keep it warm in order for the chick to be born.

The brain obviously created god. Man made god in his image, not the other way around.

I believe the higher power did and does exist before any of us.
But we have conceptualized the higher power as the Judeo-Christian God, along with all the other conceptualizations we have of the higher power.
But that does not mean we created the higher power ourselves.
