Is there another way of studing what the Bible says. I wonder if what they meant is " what I don't like in the Bible I can just interpret it as something I do like"

One person will say that a statement has a "spiritual meaning"...another will say it's "literal"....then another will say the meaning is entirely different because the word was an old Hebrew word that used to mean bla bla bla.

You will never get it right if you listen to people who accuse you of reading the Bible incorrectly. Read the bible if you want to and take the benefits that you gain from it. Ask questions and use your own logical mind to decide what answers are helping you, rather than hindering you.

Good Luck!

The bible is a historical book and there are things to be taken literally and other things which are to be taken symbolically. but more than that its a personal book through which God speaks to us. and so many a time the bible can speak to us personally and this happens only we God reveals the true meaning of a verse to us. so if you pray and you know that God has reavealed something to you from the bible, then you don't have to worry what others say about the way you interpret the bible. Always prayer is the way you can find great truths.

while watching T.V. I heard a minister say the bible says this but it really mean that, and that time has passed away. there are too many Christians that have changed the bible to mean what they believe instead of what is says,
I take the bible literal, I believe that when Jesus said something he knew what he was saying and meant it, when we start reinterpreting the bible, and changing its meaning to what we believe it should say, where do we stop?
and yes we do have the intelligence to know the difference between a parable and a statement.

No there's a difference between taking the Bible literally - that every word is the literal word of God and can't be questioned - and seeing parts of it as possibly being metaphor or allegory.

Someone who takes the Bible literally would say that when Jesus said if your hand causes you to sin it's better to cut it off than to enter the kingdom of heaven in your current state, you really should cut off your hand.

NONE of the bible should be taken literally. It is a collection of parables and mythology, not a history book.

The more you interpret it literally the closer to the real truth you get.

The bible is 90% metaphor.

specific, I do have faith that we are meant to interpret the Bible actually. Literal interpretation is the only interpretation achieveable. And with the help of "literal interpretation", I recommend the meaning that is initially meant with the help of the writers of the Bible.
