That's like if I pointed to an atheist like Stalin, for example, who was a ruthless dictator and mass murderer, and if I said, "that's why I'm not an atheist."

Even if a Christian was the nicest and most charitable person in the world or the meanest person in the world, how would that prove or disprove the existence of God?

If I decided not to be a Catholic Christian because my father is a Catholic and I had a bad relationship with him, what does that have to do with whether or not the Catholic faith is the truth?

I notice that a lot of people, both atheist and those who call themselves Christian, have faulty logic clouded with emotion when they are deciding either to believe or not believe in God or in deciding what kind of Christian to be.

You have more than one question ...
#1: I'm an atheist and I don't do what you suggest WE ALL do. You are making a wide generalisation and assuming far too much.
#2: Stalin: He was a tyrant because he was a tyrant and it was nothing to do with him being an atheist or not.
#3: Sadly, with such a confidence trick as religion, there is no proving the existence of this imaginary entity but the onus of providing proof does not rest with the 'challenger' but with the claimant. I refer you to the Invisible Pink Unicorn. Try googling that.
#4; All religion is man-made, invented as a controlling measure and using fear as one of the controlling factors. Thus, all religion is to be sopurned as being invented and none of them have any bearing on truth.
#5: You notice a lot of stuff that achieves nothing. The quality and the depth of the logic of the atheist is what makes an atheist what he/she is. Religious people seem to have no reliance on logic or reason at all, otherwise, they would have dumped religion a long time ago. " ... a lot of people, both atheist and those who call themselves Christian ...(are) clouded with emotion when they are deciding ..." Illogical. As an atheist, I am not 'deciding' I have decided. I am not deciding on what kind of Christian to be. All that is decided. Not one version. So, don't include atheists in your assumption/s

Because that same Christian sinner was more than likely belittling atheists, damning non-believers to hell, being anti gay, anti fornication, etc. But yet they do it too..... it shows that SOME of these so-called bonified Christians that tend to rub us the wrong way are no different from us except for the fact that they are hypocrites. That's all. I've seen so much corruption in the church, why would I be apart of something that I see a lot of people "keeping one foot in and one foot out" of the church. At least I'm being real with myself and others.

Kit F well said!

It could have something to do with Christians (not all) using their religion to justify their sins or just their plain stupidity. They sin and say they're still going to heaven because they'll repent. That just rubs some people the wrong way. If a kid breaks a vase on purpose and then apologises will they be forgiven? That sure wasn't the rule in my house while growing up, or in any of the other families I've been around.

I'd say there are more examples of Christians falling from grace than atheists doing immoral acts. Statistically, from reading, and from what I have seen with my own eyes.

Yes, christians "sins" are a part of what has strenghtened my disbelief in any religion. But I decided at the age of 12 that I didn't believe in anything, and that was an extension of my questioning since the age of 8. So it is not the primary reason as to why I do not believe in your god.

I think most of us don't believe because of the lack of evidence.

Many of us point out the hypocrites that lead Christians because we find it ironic and even humorous, but that is not the basis for our belief. It does seem to me anyhow, that it shows that they don't really believe in hell themselves because if they did there is no way it would be worth it.

How right you are. And the reason is we live in a fallen world and the devil is a powerful force on this planet. He spreads many lies and uses both christians and non christians to confuse everyone so that no one will know the truth. The only way to know the truth is to read the Word of God. Read it daily. By the way, if you do read the Word of God you will see that the catholic doctorine does not line up with scripture, not even close.

People will believe anything as long as it is not in the Bible. Jesus is the message of eternal life, grace, mercy, and peace to the believer but what is the message of the cross to non believers? It is simply turn or burn. That's a very hard pill to swallow. Give them a little slack. God is working with them or they would not be in a yahoo answer forum fighting against something they supposedly don't believe in.
I agree with what you see 100%. Its just human nature.
May GOD richly bless you.

i am not an athiest, but i refuse to worship the christian god.

simply because of the ammount of horrible things that he allows to be done in his name. if he was all powerful as he claims then these people simply would not habe the ability to claim that he told them to do these horrible thngs. so he must agree with them. and that i cannot worship. not because it is wrong, but because it is a lie.

Atheist love to do this, they feel empowered by the fact that they can point their finger and say " it's your fault, my life sucks". Your GOD
is this and that or HE does not exist. I have never met an atheist who minds his own business. I preach by my example. I do not try to convert anyone. I am trying to fight the good fight, but do you notice how a lot of atheist love to hang around this site? The are void of religion. That's why they suffer, and try to blame or find someone to irritate! They're like a rash!!

I am an atheist, and neither I or the atheists that I know have never used that argument to justify our/their beliefs.
